The development of isoform-selective histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors offers a promising approach to minimize the adverse effects of nonselective HDAC inhibitors. HDAC6, due to its unique structural and functional properties, regulates critical cellular processes like gene expression, proliferation, senescence, and apoptosis. Inspired by a tryptoline-derived natural product, callophycin A, a series of compounds were synthesized and evaluated for HDAC6 selectivity.

Associations between cross-sectional and long-term food insecurity with dietary quality among middle-aged and older United Study adults: A Cohort Study from the Health and Retirement Study.

Background: Food insecurity impedes healthy diet adherence, but few studies, particularly longitudinal studies, have examined these associations in middle-aged and older adults.

Objectives: Using the longitudinal Health and Retirement Study (HRS), we examined the associations between cross-sectional and long-term food insecurity and diet quality among United States middle-aged and older adults.

Methods: Participants aged ≥50 at the time of initial food insecurity assessment and who completed the 2013 Health Care and Nutrition Study (HCNS) were included (cross-sectional food insecurity: n = 6783; long-term food insecurity: n = 4923).

Food insecurity and cognitive domains among older United States adults: Findings from the health and retirement study.

Introduction: The number of cases of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) is expected to triple in the United States in the next three decades. Food insecurity may be a risk factor for cognitive decline. However, studies exploring the relationship between food insecurity and individual cognitive domains within the United States remain limited.

TAM (TYRO3, AXL, MERTK) receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) have intrinsic roles in tumor cell proliferation, migration, chemoresistance, and suppression of antitumor immunity. The overexpression of TAM RTKs is associated with poor prognosis in various types of cancer. Single-target agents of TAM RTKs have limited efficacy because of an adaptive feedback mechanism resulting from the cooperation of TAM family members.

Background: Migrant women becoming mothers often face social, economic, and family challenges that can affect their dietary and breastfeeding practices. This study identified factors associated with breastfeeding length in migrant women.

Methods: The study sample involved 504 migrant women from the Filipino Women's Diet and Health Study (FiLWHEL) in 2014-2016.

Ultra-processed food intake, genetic polymorphisms and the risk of dyslipidaemia in the adult Korean population.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between ultra-processed food intake and dyslipidaemia risk and whether this association varied by the polygenic score for dyslipidaemia in the adult Korean population.

Design: Prospective cohort study.

Setting: Ultra-processed foods were identified under the NOVA classification.

Clinical Judgment Model-Based Critical Reflection Program for Newly Graduated Nurses: A Nonrandomized Controlled Trial.

This study evaluated the effects of a critical reflection program utilizing the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric (LCJR) reflective questions based on the Clinical Judgment Model (CJM) on newly graduated nurses' clinical judgment skills. A total of 153 newly graduated nurses scheduled for on-site training in a ward nursing unit were divided into a control group (receiving only the usual on-site training with preceptorship) and an experimental group (receiving the developed program with the same on-site training with preceptorship as the control group). Data were collected at baseline, 6 weeks, and 3 months after the intervention.

Oxidation of dopamine can cause various side effects, which ultimately leads to cell death and contributes to Parkinson's disease (PD). To counteract dopamine oxidation, newly synthesized dopamine is quickly transported into vesicles via vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) for storage. VMAT2 expression is reduced in patients with PD, and studies have shown increased accumulation of dopamine oxidation byproducts and α-synuclein in animals with low VMAT2 expression.

Discovery of organosulfur-based selective HDAC8 inhibitors with anti-neuroblastoma activity.

Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are important epigenetic regulators of gene expression and various cellular processes, and are potential targets for anticancer therapy. In particular, HDAC8 is a promising therapeutic target for childhood neuroblastoma. To date, five HDAC inhibitors have been approved as anticancer drugs; however, all are non-selective HDAC inhibitors with various side effects.

Advancing Cardiovascular Drug Screening Using Human Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Cardiomyocytes.

Human pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hPSC-CMs) have emerged as a promising tool for studying cardiac physiology and drug responses. However, their use is largely limited by an immature phenotype and lack of high-throughput analytical methodology. In this study, we developed a high-throughput testing platform utilizing hPSC-CMs to assess the cardiotoxicity and effectiveness of drugs.

Ibulocydine Inhibits Migration and Invasion of TNBC Cells via MMP-9 Regulation.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) accounts for approximately 15-20% of all breast cancer types, indicating a poor survival prognosis with a more aggressive biology of metastasis to the lung and a short response duration to available therapies. Ibulocydine (IB) is a novel (cyclin-dependent kinase) CDK7/9 inhibitor prodrug displaying potent anti-cancer effects against various cancer cell types. We performed in vitro and in vivo experiments to determine whether IB inhibits metastasis and eventually overcomes the poor drug response in TNBC.

The effects of dietary self-monitoring intervention on anthropometric and metabolic changes via a mobile application or paper-based diary: a randomized trial.

Background/objectives: Weight loss via a mobile application (App) or a paper-based diary (Paper) may confer favorable metabolic and anthropometric changes.

Subjects/methods: A randomized parallel trial was conducted among 57 adults whose body mass indices (BMIs) were 25 kg/m or greater. Participants randomly assigned to either the App group (n = 30) or the Paper group (n = 27) were advised to record their foods and supplements through App or Paper during the 12-week intervention period.

Intractable chylous leak after radical esophagectomy treated with radiotherapy.

Postoperative chylous leak after esophagectomy is a rare but potentially life-threatening complication that results in hypovolemia, electrolyte imbalance, malnutrition, and immunologic deficiency. However, the management of postoperative chylous leak remains controversial. Following a diagnosis of esophageal cancer, a 64-year-old man was treated by video-assisted thoracoscopic esophagectomy, laparoscopic gastric tube formation, prophylactically thoracic duct ligation, and reconstruction with esophagogastrostomy at the neck level.

Background: There have been no recent meta-analysis studies on specific psychological symptoms (depression and anxiety) according to the type of primary headache disorder in children and adolescents.

Objectives: We performed a meta-analysis of various psychodiagnostic scales. Psychological symptoms of primary headache disorders have been reported in previous studies.

miR-199a and miR-199b facilitate diffuse gastric cancer progression by targeting Frizzled-6.

Pathological markers that can monitor the progression of gastric cancer (GC) may facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diffuse GC (DGC). To identify microRNAs (miRNAs) that can differentiate between early and advanced DGC in the gastric mucosa, miRNA expression profiling was performed using the NanoString nCounter method in human DGC tumors. Ectopic expression of miR-199a and miR-199b (miR-199a/b) in SNU601 human GC cells accelerated the growth rate, viability, and motility of cancer cells and increased the tumor volume and weight in a mouse xenograft model.

Large mesenchymal cystic and chondroid pulmonary hamartoma mimicking lung cancer: Case report.

Background: Sleep plays a complex role in metabolic regulation, and the underlying linkage has not been clearly defined. We investigated the association between sleep duration and metabolic disorders in Filipino immigrants in Korea.

Methods: We analyzed 410 participants from the 2014 to 2016 baseline population of the Filipino Women's Diet and Health Study.

Improving radiomics reproducibility using deep learning-based image conversion of CT reconstruction algorithms in hepatocellular carcinoma patients.

Objectives: CT reconstruction algorithms affect radiomics reproducibility. In this study, we evaluate the effect of deep learning-based image conversion on CT reconstruction algorithms.

Methods: This study included 78 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who underwent four-phase liver CTs comprising non-contrast, late arterial (LAP), portal venous (PVP), and delayed phase (DP), reconstructed using both filtered back projection (FBP) and advanced modeled iterative reconstruction (ADMIRE).

Left anterior descending artery dissection with retrograde aortic dissection during percutaneous coronary intervention: a case report.

Retrograde catheter-induced coronary artery dissection during percutaneous coronary intervention is an exceedingly rare occurrence, and the likelihood of it extending into the aorta is even more uncommon. Typically, surgical treatment involves aortic root replacement combined with coronary artery bypass grafting. However, in this particular case, a meticulous approach was employed.

Dietary intakes of branched-chain amino acids and plasma lipid profiles among filipino women in Korea: the Filipino Women's Diet and Health Study (FiLWHEL).

Background: The potential role of dietary branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) in metabolic health, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes, is evolving, and it is yet to be understood if dietary BCAA intakes are associated with plasma lipid profiles or dyslipidaemia. This study tested the association of dietary BCAA intakes with plasma lipid profiles and dyslipidaemia among Filipino women in Korea.

Methods: Energy-adjusted dietary BCAA intakes (isoleucine, leucine, valine, and total BCAA) and fasting blood profiles of triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C) were determined in a sample of 423 women enrolled in the Filipino Women's Diet and Health Study (FiLWHEL).

Background: Limited evidence exists on the association between dietary fat intake and lipid profiles in Southeast Asian populations.

Objectives: We aimed to examine the cross-sectional associations of dietary intake of total and specific types of fat with dyslipidemia in Filipino immigrant women in Korea.

Methods: We included 406 Filipino women married to Korean in the Filipino Women's Diet and Health Study (FiLWHEL).

Applicability of oil adsorption pads based on properties of very-low sulfur fuel oil: Implications for oil spill remediation in a marine environment.

Given the urgent need for continuous and diverse research on marine fuel oils, this study investigated the effects of the properties of fuel oil on its adsorption to adsorbent materials. Very low-sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO), which is increasingly being utilized in vessels, was tested to simulate adsorption from seawater at temperatures of 1, 15, and 25 °C. Temperature minimally affected the adsorbed amount of low-viscosity VLSFOs and high-sulfur fuel oils.

Comparison of cardiovascular disease risk factors among FiLWHEL (2014-2016), NNS (2013) and KNHANES (2013-2015) women.

Objectives: This study assessed the CVD risk factors among Filipino women (FW) in Korea and compared them with FW in the Philippines and women in Korea (KW).

Methods: A cohort of 504 women from the Filipino Women's Health and Diet Study (FiLWHEL) aged 20-57 years old were age-matched (1:1 ratio) with women from the 2013 National Nutrition Survey in the Philippines and the 2013-2015 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Anthropometric data, blood pressure (BP), lipid and glucose levels were compared across the four populations by calculating the odds ratio (OR)s and 95% confidence interval (CI)s using conditional logistic regression models.
