Plasma amyloid-β(Aβ)42/40 ratio, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), neurofilament light (NfL), and phosphorylated tau181(p-tau181) are promising biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related pathology. We aimed to explore the longitudinal trajectories of these biomarkers in association with changes in structural brain markers and cognition, and the impact of cognitive reserve on their associations with cognitive function. This cohort study included 1270 individuals (mean age 59.

Background: Sleep is an important determinant of cardiovascular health. We sought to investigate the longitudinal association between sleep duration and incident carotid plaque in a rural Chinese population.
Methods: This population-based prospective cohort study included 1004 rural residents (age ≥40 years) who were free of carotid plaque and had no history of clinical stroke and transient ischemic attack at baseline (2017).
Epidemiological characteristics of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) in the general population, especially among rural older adults, are poorly defined. Here, we reported the prevalence, distribution, and associated factors of cSVD in a rural-dwelling older population in China. This population-based cross-sectional study included 1272 older adults (age ≥60 years; mean age 69.

Background: The mechanisms underlying olfactory decline in aging need further investigation. Noticeably, the longitudinal relationship of biological markers with olfaction remains underexplored. We investigated whether baseline levels and progression of microvascular lesions and brain atrophy are associated with odor identification (OID) decline.

Background: The choroid plexus (ChP) plays an important role in producing cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and physical dysfunction has been associated with alterations in CSF circulation. However, no population-based studies have thus far examined the association of ChP with physical function in older people.
Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 1217 participants (age ≥ 60 years; 57.
Background: Emerging evidence has linked metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) with accelerated cognitive decline and dementia. We aimed to investigate the associations of MASLD with volumes of total brain tissue and subcortical grey matter, and white matter microstructures in the UK Biobank.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 29,195 individuals (aged 45-82 years) from the UK Biobank who undertook a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sub-study between 2014 and 2022.
Evidence regarding the clinical validity of blood biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in the general population is limited. We estimated the hazard and predictive performance of six AD blood biomarkers for incident all-cause and AD dementia-the ratio of amyloid-β 42 to amyloid-β 40 and levels of tau phosphorylated at T217 (p-tau217), tau phosphorylated at T181 (p-tau181), total tau, neurofilament light chain (NfL), and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-in a cohort of 2,148 dementia-free older adults from Sweden, who were followed for up to 16 years. In multi-adjusted Cox regression models, elevated baseline levels of p-tau181, p-tau217, NfL, and GFAP were associated with a significantly increased hazard for all-cause and AD dementia, displaying a non-linear dose-response relationship.

Introduction: We sought to develop a practical tool for predicting dementia risk among rural-dwelling Chinese older adults.
Methods: This cohort study included 2220 rural older adults (age ≥ 65 years) who were dementia-free at baseline (2014) and were followed in 2018. Dementia was diagnosed following the DSM-IV criteria.
Background: Motoric cognitive risk syndrome (MCR) has been associated with dementia, functional dependence, and mortality. We sought to describe the prevalence and distribution of MCR and to explore the clinical, biological, and neuroimaging profiles for MCR in rural-dwelling Chinese older adults.
Methods: This population-based study included 5021 dementia- and disability-free participants (mean age 70.
Introduction: The abdominal volume index (AVI), a novel anthropometric index that reflects abdominal obesity, has been related to atherosclerosis. We sought to investigate the association of AVI with the severity and burden of asymptomatic intracranial arterial stenosis (aICAS) in a rural Chinese population.
Methods: The population-based cross-sectional study included 1,994 participants who were aged ≥40 years and living in Kongcun Town, Pingyin County, Shandong, and who had no history of clinical stroke or transient ischemic attack.

Introduction: To examine the longitudinal association between estimated pulse wave velocity (ePWV) and cognitive phenotypes in a rural Chinese older population.
Methods: This population-based study included 1857 dementia-free participants (age ≥60 years) who were examined in 2014 and followed in 2018. ePWV was calculated using age and mean blood pressure (MBP).
Background: Cognitive reserve (CR), typically measured through socio-behavioral proxies, can partially explain better cognitive performance despite underlying brain aging or neuropathology.
Objective: To examine the associations of CR with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and cognitive function while considering Alzheimer's disease (AD)-related plasma biomarkers.
Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 4706 dementia-free individuals from MIND-China.
