Parvalbumin (PV), a thermostable and digestion-resistant fish allergen, has been shown to retain its allergenic potential following traditional treatments, thus posing a persistent allergic risk. The study investigated the digestive kinetics and IgE immunoreactivity of Trachinotus ovatus PV, a major fish allergen, under different treatments (untreated; DPCD treatment-15 MPa, 30 min, 50 °C; heat treatment), to evaluate its allergenic potential alterations. The analysis was conducted using a combination of techniques to assess the proteolytic stability and IgE-binding capacity of PV, including Tris-Tricine-SDS-PAGE, Western blot (WB), indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and free amino group quantification.

Fetal brain anomalies identified by prenatal ultrasound and/or magnetic resonance imaging represent a considerable healthcare burden with ∼1-2/1,000 live births. To identify the underlying etiology, trio prenatal exome sequencing or genome sequencing (ES/GS) has emerged as a comprehensive diagnostic paradigm with a reported diagnostic rate up to ∼32%. Here, we report five unrelated families with six affected individuals that presented neuroanatomical, craniofacial, and skeletal anomalies, all harboring rare, bi-allelic deleterious variants in SNAPIN, which encodes SNARE-associated protein.

3D shape defect detection plays an important role in autonomous industrial inspection. However, accurate detection of anomalies remains challenging due to the complexity of multimodal sensor data, especially when both color and structural information are required. In this work, we propose a lightweight inter-modality feature prediction framework that effectively utilizes multimodal fused features from the inputs of RGB, depth and point clouds for efficient 3D shape defect detection.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease in which dysregulated interferon regulatory factor 5 (IRF5) may amplify pro-inflammatory pathways; prior genetic studies of IRF5 single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) in RA are inconsistent across populations and have not included mestizo Mexicans or evaluated rs59110799 in RA. We aimed to test whether four IRF5 SNVs (rs2004640G/T, rs2070197T/C, rs10954213G/A, rs59110799G/T) confer susceptibility to RA in women from Central Mexico. In a case-control study of 239 women with RA and 231 female controls (all self-identified Mexican-Mestizos, ≥3 generations), genotyping was performed by real-time PCR with TaqMan® probes; 80% of samples were duplicated (100% concordance) and control genotypes conformed to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.

Introduction: Mental health stigma remains a major barrier to accessing psychiatric care worldwide, with pronounced effects in culturally traditional societies such as Peshawar, Pakistan. In the Pashtun cultural context, the code of Pashtunwali-an honor-based system-shapes social attitudes and behaviors, potentially influencing mental health help-seeking patterns. This study examines how cultural narratives, social norms, and stigma interact to affect help-seeking behavior in this sociocultural setting.

Heavy metal (HM) contamination is an increasing environmental and agricultural concern due to the persistence, toxicity, and bioaccumulative nature of metals such as cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), and arsenic (As). These pollutants are primarily introduced through industrial effluents, mining, and agrochemicals, negatively impacting soil health, crop productivity, and food safety, ultimately posing serious risks to both ecosystems and human health. Conventional remediation methods can be costly, labor-intensive, and environmentally disruptive.

Male infertility affects a significant number of couples worldwide, yet the precise causes and genetic mechanisms underlying this condition remain largely unknown. To investigate the monogenic causes of primary male infertility, we performed exome sequencing (ES) in a cohort of 100 unrelated Pakistani male patients with non-obstructive, non-syndromic primary infertility. ES identified potential causal variants in established infertility-associated genes in 17/100 patients, resulting in a diagnostic yield of 17%.

Compared to first principles studies like DFT (physically accurate and computationally expensive), the tight-binding approach allows the disentanglement of the region of interest, namely, the Fermi level. Further adjustment of the hopping norm and maximum distance leads to a simplified, highly interpretable but chemically grounded, reduced model which regenerates the broad features of the band structure with a fraction of the parameters.

To address this challenge, we employed rotten (eggplant) juice as a precursor for the fabrication of low-cost, earth-abundant, and active electrode materials based on cobalt oxide (CoO) nanostructures. Different volumes of rotten juice (5 mL, 10 mL, 15 mL, and 20 mL) were utilized during the precipitation process to synthesize CoO nanostructures.
