July 2022

Institute of Marine Sciences and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology, Shantou University, Shantou, 515063, China.

Freshwater periphytic biofilms (FPBs), existing widely in various aquatic environments, have attracted extensive attention for many years. In the present study, a bibliometric analysis based on Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was used to understand the research progress, trends, and hot topics of FPBs qualitatively and quantitatively. The results indicated that publications on FPBs have increased from 1991 to 2020 rapidly, and researchers have focused more on the areas of environmental sciences, microbiology, and marine freshwater biology.

Fog collection plays an important role in alleviating the global water shortage. Despite great progress in creating bionic surfaces to collect fog, water droplets still could adhere to the microscale hydrophilic region and reach the thermodynamic stable state before falling, which delays the transport of water and hinders the continuous fog collection. Inspired by lotus leaves and cactuses, we designed a Janus membrane that functions to both collect fog from the air and transport it to a certain region.

The effects of water-saving patterns (Semi-dry water-saving, B; Shallow-wet control irrigation, Q; Traditional flooding irrigation, C; and Moistening irrigation, S) on the environmental fate of phenanthrene (Phe) and microbial responses in rhizosphere were investigated in paddy field system. Results showed the rice grain in Q treatment was more high production and safety with less Phe residue (up to 18%-49%) than other treatments, and the residual Phe in soil declined in the order: C (14.17%) > S (13.

Heterojunctioned transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) films with regulatable interface adhesion have shown broad application prospects in the design of advanced materials and the manufacturing of novel functional devices. To date, the controlled fabrication of TMD heterojunctions or heterojunction-rich films with tailorable thickness and composition has proved challenging. Herein, a bimetallic co-feeding atomic layer deposition (ALD) system was developed capable of fulfilling these requirements.

Soft actuators with the integration of facile preparation, rapid actuation rate, sophisticated motions, and precise control over deformation for application in complex devices are still highly desirable. Inspired by the aligned structures of moisture responsive pineal scales, an oil-triggered Janus actuator composed of a smooth hydrophobic surface and a superhydrophobic surface with aligned microchannels by simple laser etching was fabricated successfully, which can deform into various desirable shapes and recover to the original shape when triggered by oil and ethanol molecules. The aligned microchannel design causes different oil spread distances in the longitudinal and transverse directions, resulting in orientation-controlled bending and twisting with large-scale displacement.

Sci Rep

June 2020

SAIC Volkswagen Automotive Company Limited, Shanghai, 201800, China.

As an effective method, diesel particulate filter (DPF) technology has a great contribution in reducing soot emissions from diesel engines. To achieve passive regeneration of DPF at low temperatures, K-doped CeMnO catalysts were synthesized using sol-gel method. The effect of K-doped catalysts-K-CeMnO-on the oxidation of soot had been studied by thermogravimetric analysis, and the corresponding catalytic properties were evaluated based on X-ray diffraction (XRD), hydrogen temperature programmed reduction (H-TPR), O temperature programmed desorption (O-TPD) Raman spectroscopy (Raman), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Fourier-Transform-Infrared (FTIR).

Rhenium disulfide (ReS), which possessed a unique direct band gap from the bulk to monolayer, played a very important role in establishing optoelectronic devices, while the rapid recombination of electron-hole pairs might hinder its further applications. Therefore, to improve its photocurrent performance, a bimetallic co-chamber feeding atomic layer deposition (ALD) with a precise dose regulation strategy was used to fabricate MoS-ReS heterojunctions with a controllable Mo-to-Re ratio in this work. Furthermore, because of the controlled addition of Mo atoms, the electron-transfer capacity, carrier mobility, and photocurrent response of these heterojunctions were significantly improved among which the sample obtained under 100 supercycles (one supercycle for this sample consists of the following in turn: one ReCl pulse, one HS pulse, one ReCl pulse, one MoCl pulse, and one HS pulse; the real Mo-to-Re ratio = 57.

The excellent physical and chemical properties of metallic glasses and the absence of crystal defects make them ideal materials for the preparation of microelectrodes. A vertical liquid membrane electrochemical etching method is proposed here for the fabrication of microelectrodes from the Fe-based metallic glass FeBSi. With this method, insoluble electrolysis products are kept away from the processing area, and the nonuniformity of the diffusion layer that occurs in traditional transverse liquid membrane electrochemical etching is reduced.
