Background: The increasing recognition of zoonotic malaria, particularly from Plasmodium species infecting non-human primates (NHP), poses significant diagnostic challenges. Performance of human malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) has not been evaluated in simian malaria.
Methods: A total of 131 blood samples from NHP hosts with confirmed malaria were analyzed using 14 different commercially available RDTs, detecting the antigens P.

Introduction And Importance: One of the risk factors linked to mortality in Fournier Gangrene (FG) is the elderly. When this risk is present and diagnosed too late, patient care may become difficult. This case report discusses the treatment of an older patient with late-diagnosed Fournier's gangrene and its consequences in this background.

Background: Although there is a rising trend in both dengue cases and immunocompromised conditions, there is limited research on how common severe dengue is in immunocompromised individuals. This data is key for those advising the ever-increasing numbers of immunocompromised travellers.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies reporting dengue frequency or outcomes in immunocompromised populations.

This study provides valuable guidance for simplifying fabrication procedures and enhancing the structural integrity and safety of carbon fiber (CF) laminate transfemoral (TF) prosthetic sockets. While the high specific strength of CF laminate sockets offers advantages over conventional plastics, essential production data-their orientation-dependent strength and optimal cure conditions-are lacking, often requiring complex, costly cure cycles. This study investigated (i) the influence of fiber orientation on TF prosthetic CF socket strength via finite element analysis (FEA) during standing, and (ii) optimal single-step Vacuum-Bag-Only (VBO) cure conditions for prepreg in a low-cost conventional oven.

Unlabelled: Obesity is a pervasive global health issue frequently associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Limited data exist regarding the impact of MetS and its individual components on pulmonary function in obese pediatric populations. This study investigated the relationship between MetS and lung function, and further identified specific MetS components that adversely affect pulmonary outcomes.

Considering the complexities of electronics waste management to meet the requirements of digital-age technologies, this article underscores the pressing need for eco-friendly, economical, and sustainable engineering solutions. Here, it uniquely focuses on bacteriogenic metallic and semiconducting nano-systems as a promising yet underexplored solution for sustainable materials innovation. Unlike conventional green nanofabrication methods involving plants or eukaryotic microbes, bacteria possess numerous merits for fabrication, including ease of cultivation, a wide spectrum of genera, abundance, prompt cell division efficacy, genetic elasticity, and high bio-reduction/oxidation efficacy that make them highly adaptable platforms for engineered nanostructures.

Introduction: Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT/A) is commonly used for both medical and aesthetic purposes. However, approximately 3% of long-term recipients develop resistance, potentially due to antibody formation. Injection technique may influence immunogenicity, yet comparative data remain limited.

The sodium leak channel NALCN, a key regulator of neuronal excitability, associates with three ancillary subunits that are critical for its function: a subunit called FAM155, which interacts with the extracellular regions of the channel, and two cytoplasmic subunits called UNC79 and UNC80. Interestingly, NALCN and FAM155 have orthologous phylogenetic relationships with the fungal calcium channel Cch1 and its subunit Mid1; however, UNC79 and UNC80 have not been reported outside of animals. In this study, we leveraged expanded gene sequence data available for eukaryotes to reexamine the evolutionary origins of NALCN and Cch1 channel subunits.

The postglenoid foramen (PGF) is a rarely reported anatomical variant of the temporal bone, with limited data on its morphology, prevalence, and clinical relevance, particularly in non-European populations. This study aimed to investigate the anatomy and frequency of foramina located on the squamous part of the temporal bone, including the PGF, and to propose a classification system based on their anatomical positions. A total of 117 human skulls (234 sides), including both dried and Thiel-embalmed specimens, were examined through gross observation, cadaveric dissection, and computed tomography (CT) in selected cases.

Yeast mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase, Mdh1p, is known to form supramolecular complexes with other TCA cycle and mitochondrial dehydrogenase enzymes, including the aldehyde dehydrogenase, Ald4p. These complexes have been proposed to facilitate NADH channeling. Here, we demonstrate that in cells grown to saturation and stationary phases, the endogenous Mdh1p, expressed without its mitochondrial targeting signal (MTS), stays outside mitochondria, in both a diffuse cytoplasmic distribution as well as localized to distinct puncta.

Accurate physical activity (PA) measurement is crucial for public health surveillance. While self-report questionnaires are commonly used, they have limitations, especially in young children. An affordable and user-friendly device like Feelfit® offers a promising alternative particularly for countries with limited research resources.

Verbal autopsy research is vital for understanding community mortality, informing health interventions and policies in low- and middle-income countries. However, overlooking the community perspectives on deaths can undermine the ethical conduct and effectiveness of such research. This study explored community-based concepts of death, interpretations, and coping mechanisms in five Southeast Asian countries, with this manuscript highlighting key findings from the body mapping exercise that revealed diverse cultural and religious understandings on death.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have transformed cancer treatment by leveraging the immune system's capacity to fight gynecologic cancer. This review summarizes the current status and future perspectives of ICIs in the treatment of cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers and rare tumors. ICIs have demonstrated significant efficacy in tumors with high tumor mutational burden and immune markers such as PD-L1 expression and microsatellite instability.

Cervical cancer remains a major health burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, despite being one of the most preventable cancers. WHO's 90-70-90 targets aim to eliminate cervical cancer globally by 2030. These targets include 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15 years, 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35 years and again by 45 years, and 90% of women with cervical disease receiving appropriate treatment.

Opisthorchiasis remains a significant public health concern throughout Southeast Asia. The liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini resides within the biliary tract and chronic infection leads to bile duct cancer, or cholangiocarcinoma. Here, we examined the functions of liver fluke tetraspanins, four-transmembrane domain proteins expressed on the surface of the fluke tegument and extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from this syncytial surface.

N-Glycosylation critically influences the efficacy, safety and pharmacokinetic properties of biopharmaceuticals. Plant expression platforms offer multiple advantages for the production of N-glycosylated proteins, but their use is impeded by the presence of plant-specific N-glycan epitopes, which raise concerns of possible immunogenicity to humans. In this study, N-glycoengineered Nicotiana benthamiana plants that produce more homogeneous N-glycans without plant-specific epitopes were generated using multiplex CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing.
