The sodium leak channel NALCN, a key regulator of neuronal excitability, associates with three ancillary subunits that are critical for its function: a subunit called FAM155, which interacts with the extracellular regions of the channel, and two cytoplasmic subunits called UNC79 and UNC80. Interestingly, NALCN and FAM155 have orthologous phylogenetic relationships with the fungal calcium channel Cch1 and its subunit Mid1; however, UNC79 and UNC80 have not been reported outside of animals. In this study, we leveraged expanded gene sequence data available for eukaryotes to reexamine the evolutionary origins of NALCN and Cch1 channel subunits.

The postglenoid foramen (PGF) is a rarely reported anatomical variant of the temporal bone, with limited data on its morphology, prevalence, and clinical relevance, particularly in non-European populations. This study aimed to investigate the anatomy and frequency of foramina located on the squamous part of the temporal bone, including the PGF, and to propose a classification system based on their anatomical positions. Yeast mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase, Mdh1p, is known to form supramolecular complexes with other TCA cycle and mitochondrial dehydrogenase enzymes, including the aldehyde dehydrogenase, Ald4p. These complexes have been proposed to facilitate NADH channeling. Here, we demonstrate that in cells grown to saturation and stationary phases, the endogenous Mdh1p, expressed without its mitochondrial targeting signal (MTS), stays outside mitochondria, in both a diffuse cytoplasmic distribution as well as localized to distinct puncta.

This review summarizes the current status and future perspectives of ICIs in the treatment of cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancers and rare tumors. ICIs have demonstrated significant efficacy in tumors with high tumor mutational burden and immune markers such as PD-L1 expression and microsatellite instability.

Cervical cancer remains a major health burden, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, despite being one of the most preventable cancers. WHO's 90-70-90 targets aim to eliminate cervical cancer globally by 2030. These targets include 90% of girls fully vaccinated with the HPV vaccine by the age of 15 years, 70% of women screened using a high-performance test by the age of 35 years and again by 45 years, and 90% of women with cervical disease receiving appropriate treatment.

N-Glycosylation critically influences the efficacy, safety and pharmacokinetic properties of biopharmaceuticals. Plant expression platforms offer multiple advantages for the production of N-glycosylated proteins, but their use is impeded by the presence of plant-specific N-glycan epitopes, which raise concerns of possible immunogenicity to humans.
