Perovskite solar modules (PSMs) show outstanding power conversion efficiencies (PCEs), but long-term operational stability remains problematic. We show that incorporating -dimethylmethyleneiminium chloride into the perovskite precursor solution formed dimethylammonium cation and that previously unobserved methyl tetrahydrotriazinium ([MTTZ]) cation effectively improved perovskite film. The in situ formation of [MTTZ] cation increased the formation energy of iodine vacancies and enhanced the migration energy barrier of iodide and cesium ions, which suppressed nonradiative recombination, thermal decomposition, and phase segregation processes.

Oxidative chemical vapor deposition (oCVD) stands as an attractive approach for the synthesis, engineering, and integration of conjugated polymers for advanced electronic and optoelectronic applications. In oCVD, the oxidant significantly influences the conformational and optoelectronic properties of the resulting conjugated polymer thin films. In this work, triflate salts of iron(III) and copper(II) (Fe(OTf) and Cu(OTf), respectively) are investigated for the first time as suitable alternative oxidants to the widely used iron(III) chloride (FeCl) for the oCVD of conjugated polymers.

Advanced characterization is paramount to understanding battery cycling and degradation in greater detail. Herein, we present a novel methodology of battery electrode analysis, employing focused ion beam (FIB) secondary-ion mass spectrometry platforms coupled with a specific lift-out specimen preparation, allowing us to optimize analysis and prevent air contamination. Correlative microscopy, combining electron microscopy and chemical imaging of a liquid electrolyte Li-ion battery electrode, is performed over the entire electrode thickness down to subparticle domains.

Sliding ferroelectricity is a unique type of polarity recently observed in van der Waals bilayers with a suitable stacking. However, electric-field control of sliding ferroelectricity is hard and could induce large coercive electric fields and serious leakage currents that corrode the ferroelectricity and electronic properties, which are essential for modern two-dimensional electronics and optoelectronics. Here, we proposed laser-pulse deterministic control of sliding polarization in bilayer hexagonal boron nitride by first principles and molecular dynamics simulation with machine-learned force fields.

Compositional engineering of organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite allows for improved optoelectrical properties, however, phase segregation occurs during crystal nucleation and limits perovskite solar cell device performance. Herein, we show that by applying tetrabutylammonium bistriflimide as an additive in the perovskite precursor solution, ultra-uniform perovskite crystals are obtained, which effectively increases device performance. As a result, power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) of 24.

Because of their intrinsic polarization and related properties, ferroelectrics attract significant attention to address energy transformation and environmental protection. Here, by using trivalent-ion-lanthanum doping of BiFeO nanoparticles (NPs), it is shown that defects and piezoelectric potential are synergized to achieve a high piezocatalytic effect for decomposing the model Rhodamine B (RhB) pollutant, reaching a record-high piezocatalytic rate of 21 360 L mol min (i.e.

Solid-state cooling presents an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional refrigeration technologies that rely on thermodynamic cycles involving greenhouse gases. However, conventional caloric effects face several challenges that impede their practical application in refrigeration devices. First, operational temperature conditions must align closely with zero-field phase-transition points; otherwise, the required driving fields become excessively large.

Although MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry (MS) is considered as the gold standard for rapid and cost-effective identification of microorganisms in routine laboratory practices, its capability for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) detection has received limited focus. Nevertheless, recent studies explored the predictive performance of MALDI-TOF MS for detecting AMR in clinical pathogens when machine learning techniques are applied. This chapter describes a routine MALDI-TOF MS workflow for the rapid screening of AMR in foodborne pathogens, with Campylobacter spp.

The presented research introduces the "Cells-on-Particles" integrated aerosol sampling and cytotoxicity testing in vitro platform, which allows for the direct assessment of the biological effects of captured aerosol particles on a selected cell type without the need for extraction or resuspension steps. By utilizing particles with unaltered chemical and physical properties, the method enables simple and fast screening of biological effects on specific cell types, making it a promising tool for assessing the cytotoxicity of particulate matter in ambient and occupational air. Platforms fabricated from cellulose acetate (CA) and poly[ε]caprolactone (PCL) were proven to be biocompatible and promoted the attachment and growth of the human bronchial epithelial cell line BEAS-2B.

Nanostructured ferroelectrics display exotic multidomain configurations resulting from the electrostatic and elastic boundary conditions they are subject to. While the ferroelectric domains appear frozen in experimental images, atomistic second-principles studies suggest that they may become spontaneously mobile upon heating, with the polar order melting in a liquidlike fashion. Here, we run molecular dynamics simulations of model systems (PbTiO_{3}/SrTiO_{3} superlattices) to study the unique features of this transformation.

This study aims to adapt an experimental model based on Franz diffusion cells and porcine skin explants to characterize the diffusion of TiO NPs and to compare the efficacy of different cleansing products, soapy water and a calixarene cleansing nanoemulsion compared with pure water, as a function of the time of treatment. While TiO NPs tend to form agglomerates in aqueous solutions, a diffusion through healthy skin was confirmed as particles were detected in the receptor fluid of Franz cells using sp-ICP-MS. In the absence of treatment, SIMS images showed the accumulation of TiO agglomerates in the stratum corneum, the epidermis, the dermis, and around hair follicles.

Respiratory sensitization is a complex immunological process eventually leading to hypersensitivity following re-exposure to the chemical. A frequent consequence is occupational asthma, which may occur after long latency periods. Although chemical-induced respiratory hypersensitivity has been known for decades, there are currently no comprehensive and validated approaches available for the prospective identification of chemicals that induce respiratory sensitization, while the expectations of new approach methodologies (NAMs) are high.
