The control of cell-cell communication via plasmodesmata (PD) plays a key role in plant development. In tree buds, low-temperature conditions (LT) induce a switch in plasmodesmata from a closed to an open state, which restores cell-to-cell communication in the shoot apex and releases dormancy. Using genetic and cell-biological approaches, we have identified a previously uncharacterized transcription factor, Low-temperature-Induced MADS-box 1 (LIM1), as an LT-induced, direct upstream activator of the gibberellic acid (GA) pathway.

The estimation of relative levels of amino acids is crucial for understanding various biological processes in plants, including photosynthesis, stress tolerance, and the uptake and translocation of nutrients. A wide range of liquid chromatography (LC; HPLC/UHPLC)-based methods is available for measuring the quantity of amino acids in plants. Additionally, the coupling of LC with mass spectrometry (MS) significantly enhanced the robustness of existing chromatographic methods used for amino acid quantification.

Utilizing treated wastewater for crop cultivation is essential in regions with scarce freshwater resources for irrigation. This study evaluated the growth, fruit yield, nutritional and phytochemical quality of tomato fruits cultivated using a treated wastewater-based hydroponics system developed for the Trans Himalaya, India. Tomatoes grown with treated wastewater exhibited better growth, yield, nutritional content, phytochemical properties, and antioxidant activities than those grown in soil.

Pathogenesis-related protein 1 (PR-1) is an antimicrobial protein involved in systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in plants, but its regulatory role and interactions with other pathways remain unclear. In this study, we functionally characterize WsPR-1 gene of Withania somnifera in Nicotiana tabacum to elucidate its role in plant defense, growth, and development. Interestingly, transgenic tobacco plants with increased levels of cytokinin (CK) and decreased gibberellins (GAs) exhibited stunted shoot growth, an underdeveloped root system, modified leaf morphology, reduced seed pod production, and delayed leaf senescence.

Unlike animals, variability in transcription factors (TFs) and their binding regions (TFBRs) across the plants species is a major problem that most of the existing TFBR finding software fail to tackle, rendering them hardly of any use. This limitation has resulted into underdevelopment of plant regulatory research and rampant use of Arabidopsis-like model species, generating misleading results. Here, we report a revolutionary transformers-based deep-learning approach, PTFSpot, which learns from TF structures and their binding regions' co-variability to bring a universal TF-DNA interaction model to detect TFBR with complete freedom from TF and species-specific models' limitations.
