Background: Endometrial tuberculosis (TB) is a rare form of extrapulmonary TB, particularly uncommon in postmenopausal women. Its atypical presentation, characterized by nonspecific symptoms, often leads to misdiagnosis, particularly when it is confused with malignancies. Moreover, peritoneal tuberculosis, although rare, can further complicate the diagnostic process due to its clinical manifestations that resemble those of various cancerous conditions.

Sci Rep

July 2025

BioInformatics, bioMathematics and bioStatistics laboratory (BIMS-LR16IPT09), Pasteur Institute of Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, Tunis, 1002, Tunisia.

In Tunisia, cervical cancer ranks as the 14th most common cancer, largely driven by high-risk of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types, notably HPV 16 and 18. Current screening efforts are limited, with only 17% of all women aged 35-60 undergoing Pap-smear testing. The introduction of the HPV vaccine in 2025 through the national school vaccination program, targeting girls aged 11-12, is expected to reduce the burden of cervical cancer.

Objective: Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) significantly impact quality of life in aging men. While monotherapies, including alpha-blockers, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (5-ARI), or phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5i), are widely used, the potential benefits and risks of combination pharmacotherapies remain less well-documented. This study reviews and assesses the current evidence regarding the use of combination pharmacotherapies in the management of BPH-related LUTS to provide a comprehensive overview of their efficacy and safety profiles.
