Novel boron nitride (BN) nanostructures with varied dimensionalities and unique and extraordinary qualities like exceptional mechanical properties, high thermal conductivity, excellent chemical properties have applications in diverse and promising fields, encompassing healthcare, environment, and energy. Amongst the boron nitride nanostructures, two-dimensional BN sheets have been extensively explored by researchers due to their planar topography, which confers them with distinct qualities in terms of chemical, physical, optical, and electronic properties. 2D boron nanostructures have a significant surface-to-volume ratio that enables their enhanced contact with cells and biomolecules, making them appealing candidates for biological applications.

In this work, pyrolysis of garlic straw (GS) and co-pyrolysis of GS and polyethylene (PE) is studied, comprising observations of mass loss at various stages of devolatilization, possible synergistic effects, estimation of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters, and reaction mechanism.Blending of PE with GS resulted in an increase in heating value of the feedstock, improving it from 15.57 MJ/kg to 29 MJ/kg.

Macroalgae, commonly known as seaweed, are renewable and abundant marine resources that have gained popularity over the past few years due to their potential to produce bioplastics with unique properties. This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the development, processing, and application of seaweed-derived bioplastics, emphasizing their film-forming ability, renewable origin, and favourable physicochemical characteristics that position them as promising sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based plastics in food packaging. Highly dispersed PdAgCu/C nanocomposites with enhanced catalytic activity and stability were synthesized a solvothermal method. Structural characterization confirms the formation of a multimetallic nanocomposite consisting of well-distributed Pd, Ag and Cu domains on the carbon support. The close proximity of these metal domains facilitates interface-driven electronic modulation, which contributes to improved oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics.

The inherent reducing properties of borophene nanosheets (BNSs) were harnessed to facilitate the reduction of gold ions, leading to the synthesis of gold nanoparticle-decorated borophene nanosheets (Au@BNSs) via an eco-friendly, green approach and eliminating the need for toxic external reducing agents. This innovative synthesis method addresses the limitations of conventional glucose monitoring systems, which often rely on expensive reagents and sophisticated equipment. The synthesized Au@BNSs nanocomposite demonstrated dual enzyme-mimetic activity, replicating both glucose oxidase (GOx) and peroxidase (POD) and facilitating efficient colorimetric glucose detection.

Natural enzymes play a pivotal role in catalyzing essential biochemical reactions in both and systems, owing to their exceptional catalytic efficiency, substrate specificity, and biocompatibility. However, their widespread application is significantly limited by inherent drawbacks such as high production costs, limited operational stability, and poor reusability. In this study, Co-doped SnO is synthesized atop the hexagonal CoS template (CoSS) via direct air calcination of as-synthesized Co-doped SnS (CoS) nanosheets. The structural evolution facilitated the emergence of Co and Co states, complemented by surface-adsorbed sulfur oxyanions (SO , HSO , SO ). CoSS deposited over carbon cloth (CoSS/CC) exhibited superior bifunctional HER and OER, demonstrating higher stability and efficiency than their CoS/CC counterparts.

The enzyme-mimic activity of a well-defined structurally characterized organometallic complex, [Ir(ppy)₂(fcbpy)]PF₆(1; ppy = 2-phenylpyridine; fcbpy = 4-ferrocenyl-2,2'-bipyridine), a bimetallic iridium-polypyridyl complex is investigated under light irradiation for the first time. This complex exhibits an extended excited-state lifetime of 592 ns due to bimetallic synergy, and possess oxidase-mimic activity in the presence of light. Leveraging this light-activated oxidase-mimic activity, a simple colorimetric assay is developed that successfully differentiates cancerous cells from normal cells, based on elevated glutathione (GSH) levels.

Portable, cost-effective, and durable thin-film sensors are essential for real-time detection, ensuring safe drinking water and public health protection. In this work, we developed a solid-state, flexible sensing device using an agarose-chitosan-agarose (ACA) sandwich biofilm for the selective colorimetric detection of in water. The chitosan in ACA biofilm functions as an artificial enzyme, exhibiting peroxidase-like activity, which catalyzes the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (HO).

The connecting peptide (C-peptide), once relegated as an epiphenomenon in insulin biosynthesis, has now been recognized for its capacity to instigate molecular effects along with important physiological functions. These findings suggest that C-peptide is a hormonally active molecule responsible for controlling a number of diabetes-related complications, in addition to proinsulin processing. Notably, it demonstrates cellular responsiveness and acts as a robust biomarker for beta cell functions, with a half-life longer than that of insulin.
