Menopausal syndrome includes the symptoms that most women experience owing to hormone changes after menopause. Although hormone replacement therapy is a common treatment for menopausal syndrome, there are still many side effects and challenges hindering research. In this study, thioglycolic acid (TGA)-immobilized chitosan mucoadhesive gel was synthesized by a new method of low concentration of 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) would encapsulate di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) as an alternative hormone replacement therapy for menopausal syndrome.

Aim: this study aimed to investigate the role of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) epidermal growth factor receptor antisense RNA 1 (EGFR-AS1), an antisense transcript of EGFR, in leiomyosarcoma (LMS) and the underlying mechanisms.
Methods: levels of EGFR-AS1 and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) were measured in LMS tissues and cell lines using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), as well as western blotting and/or immunohistochemical staining; flow cytometry was employed to validate the role of EGFR-AS1 in altering the activity of CD8+ T cells; interaction of EGFR-AS1 and EGFR was determined by fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and RNA pull-down; regulation of MYC on the PD-L1 promoter was assessed by chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP); a xenograft in vivo tumor growth assay was applied to verify the EGFR-AS1/EGFR/MYC/PD-L1 axis in vivo.
Results: up-regulation of EGFR-AS1 and PD-L1 in LMS tissues was negatively correlated with CD8+ T-cell infiltration; EGFR-AS1 positively regulated PD-L1, thereby strengthening interaction of LMS cells and CD8+ T cells and triggering CD8+ T cell apoptosis via the PD-1/PD-L1 checkpoint; EGFR-AS1 co-localized and interacted with EGFR to promote MYC activity; MYC was identified as a transcriptional activator of PD-L1.

We introduce perturbative spatial frequency domain imaging (p-SFDI) for fast two-dimensional (2D) mapping of the optical properties and physiological characteristics of skin and cutaneous microcirculation using spatially modulated visible light. Compared to the traditional methods for recovering 2D maps through a pixel-by-pixel inversion, p-SFDI significantly shortens parameter retrieval time, largely avoids the random fitting errors caused by measurement noise, and enhances the image reconstruction quality. The efficacy of p-SFDI is demonstrated by imaging forearm of one healthy subject, recovering the 2D spatial distribution of cutaneous hemoglobin concentration, oxygen saturation, scattering properties, the melanin content, and the epidermal thickness over a large field of view.

The effectiveness and feasibility of SDT are regarded to rely on not only the development of stable and flexible SDT apparatus, but also the screening of sonosensitizers with good specificity and safety. To give an outlook of the development of SDT equipment, the key technologies are discussed according to five aspects including ultrasonic dose settings, sonosensitizer screening, tumor positioning, temperature monitoring, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) detection.

Background: To explore the application value of three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction and 3D printing in preoperative evaluation of precise resection of complicated thoracic tumors.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 34 patients with complicated thoracic tumors who were treated by radical surgery from March 2016 to June 2019 was made. According to whether 3D reconstruction and 3D printing was used, the patients were divided into research group and control group.
Light-responsive inorganic biomaterials are an emerging class of materials used for developing noninvasive, noncontact, precise, and controllable medical devices in a wide range of biomedical applications, including photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, drug delivery, and regenerative medicine. Herein, a range of biomaterials is discussed, including carbon-based nanomaterials, gold nanoparticles, graphite carbon nitride, transition metal dichalcogenides, and up-conversion nanoparticles that are used in the design of light-responsive medical devices. The importance of these light-responsive biomaterials is explored to design light-guided nanovehicle, modulate cellular behavior, as well as regulate extracellular microenvironments.

We present a dynamic microcirculation PIPE model for functional neuroimaging, non-neuroimaging, and coherent hemodynamics spectroscopy. The temporal evolution of the concentration and oxygen saturation of hemoglobin in tissue, comprised of the contributions from the arterioles, capillaries, and venules of microvasculature, is determined by time-resolved hemodynamic and metabolic variations in blood volume, flow velocity, and oxygen consumption with a fluid mechanics treatment. Key parameters regarding microcirculation can be assessed, including the effective blood transit times through the capillaries and the venules, and the rate constant of oxygen release from hemoglobin to tissue.

CD146 bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (BM-MSCs) play key roles in the perivascular niche, skeletogenesis, and hematopoietic support; however, comprehensive evaluation of therapeutic potency has yet to be determined. In this study, in vitro inflammatory priming to crude human BM-MSCs (n = 8) captured a baseline of signature responses, including enriched CD146 with coexpression of CD107a , CXCR4 , and LepR , transcriptional profile, enhanced secretory capacity, and robust immunomodulatory secretome and function, including immunopotency assays (IPAs) with stimulated immune cells. These signatures were significantly more pronounced in CD146 (POS)-sorted subpopulation than in the CD146 (NEG).
