Sustainable water, energy and food (WEF) supplies are the bedrock upon which human society depends. Solar-driven interfacial evaporation, combined with electricity generation and cultivation, is a promising approach to mitigate the freshwater, energy and food crises. However, the performance of solar-driven systems decreases significantly during operation due to uncontrollable weather. This study proposes an integrated water/electricity cogeneration-cultivation system with superior thermal management. The energy storage evaporator, consisting of energy storage microcapsules/hydrogel composites, is optimally designed for sustainable desalination, achieving an evaporation rate of around 1.91 kg m h. In the dark, heat released from the phase-change layer supported an evaporation rate of around 0.54 kg m h. Reverse electrodialysis harnessed the salinity-gradient energy enhanced during desalination, enabling the long-running WEC system to achieve a power output of ~0.3 W m, which was almost three times higher than that of conventional seawater/surface water mixing. Additionally, an integrated crop irrigation platform utilized system drainage for real-time, on-demand wheat cultivation without secondary contaminants, facilitating seamless WEF integration. This work presents a novel approach to all-day solar water production, electricity generation and crop irrigation, offering a solution and blueprint for the sustainable development of WEF.

Although cold atmospheric plasma is a promising therapeutic technique for tumor immunotherapy via reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS), the challenges associated with the generation and delivery of these RONS hamper clinical adoption. Herein, a dual-mode hybrid discharge plasma-activated sodium alginate hydrosols (PAH) is proposed to enhance the antitumor immune response. Gaseous highly reactive RONS are generated by dual-mode hybrid plasma produced by mixed O and NO modes, which are converted into aqueous RONS in PAH via gas-liquid reactions between plasma and hydrosols.

Identifying early predictors of language development is essential for understanding how infants acquire vocabulary during the first years of life. While previous studies have established the importance of infant-directed speech (IDS) and neural speech processing, this longitudinal study introduces a novel approach by combining EEG-based functional connectivity analysis and machine learning to assess the joint contribution of maternal and infant neural factors to language outcomes. Data were collected at birth and nine months, including maternal personality and speech characteristics, alongside infant EEG responses during speech processing.

The offshore renewable energy industry is expanding rapidly due to decarbonisation commitments and need for energy security. This will change the marine environment in ways that are not fully understood, including more subsea power cables in the sea. Movement of electricity through these cables generates an electromagnetic field (EMF), which might affect marine species.

Glucose sensors are critical analytical devices designed for precise and continuous monitoring of glucose concentrations, playing a pivotal role in healthcare, particularly in diabetes management. Here, we synthesis glucose oxidase (GOx)/Se hydrogel to detect the glucose, thereby generating measurable electrical signals. Further, the transfection of electronic signals rely on the poly(dopamine) (PDA) grid in hydrogel.

Crossmodal correspondences - systematic mappings between stimulus attributes in different modalities - are ubiquitous in the general population. For example, high-pitched (vs low-pitched) sounds are commonly associated with elevated (vs low) positions in space, and rounded (vs angular) shapes tend to be linked to the term 'Bouba' (vs 'Kiki'). There is still some debate about the role of immediate sensory experience versus conceptual colour understanding in crossmodal correspondences.
