Article Abstract

The necessity to ensure safety in the work environment is a priority for the functioning of mines as enterprises with a high level of exposure to hazards. The basis for this is the identification of hazards to which mine workers are exposed. This article aims to identify and systematize safety hazards present in quarries. Based on a review of the literature, hazards were identified and classified into six groups: natural, environmental, technical and technological, human, organizational, and others. Additionally, a correlation was established between the identified hazards and the stages of the mine's life cycle, as well as the methods of deposit extraction in quarries. The results presented in the article systematize existing knowledge on industry-specific hazards. The results can serve as a source of information when developing occupational risk documentation and its analysis, and form the basis for research on the causes and consequences of accidents in mining. Identifying hazards can also help effectively monitor them effectively and implement preventive measures to protect workers and reduce accident risks in quarries.

U-shaped association of body roundness index with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in individuals with chronic kidney disease.

Ren Fail

December 2025

Department of Nephrology, Kidney Disease Medical Center, Tianjin Medical University General Hospital, National Key Clinical Specialty, Tianjin Key Medical Discipline, Tianjin, China.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the association between body roundness index (BRI) and deaths from all causes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in participants with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Materials And Methods: The data was sourced from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2018. Cox proportional hazards regression along with restricted cubic splines were applied to assess the associations of BRI with deaths from all causes and CVD in individuals with CKD.

Background: The cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47)-signal regulatory protein alpha (SIRPα) axis is a key regulator of innate immune surveillance, facilitating the neoplastic evasion of macrophage-mediated phagocytosis. Although this pathway has been implicated in tumor immune escape in multiple malignancies, its clinical and prognostic significance in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remain to be fully elucidated.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 100 patients who underwent esophagectomy for resectable ESCC.

Construction of an Ag-functionalized structural color hydrogel sensor for colorimetric detection of glutathione.

Mikrochim Acta

September 2025

Hunan Key Laboratory of Typical Environmental Pollution and Health Hazards, School of Public Health, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang, 421001, China.

An Ag-functionalized structural color hydrogel (Ag-SCH) sensor is constructed for colorimetric detection of glutathione (GSH). The hydrogel is prepared by using the coordination of Ag and 1-vinylimidazole (1-VI) as cross-linking network. GSH acts as a competitive ligand to break the coordination between Ag and 1-VI, leading to the expansion and structural color change of the hydrogel.

This viewpoint examines the inadequate protection of informal workers against climate change hazards under new legislation in Ecuador. The recent Executive Decree No. 255 (Regulation on Occupational Safety and Health), enacted in May 2024, explicitly excludes informal sector workers, who are at elevated risk due to climate change impacts such as rising extreme temperatures.

Aims And Background: Relative fat mass (RFM) is strongly associated with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and has been shown to be a better predictor than body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). This study aims to investigate the association between RFM and incident T2DM among adults in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study cohort.

Methods: Data from 8419 participants (4716 women; mean age, 40.
