Article Abstract

Isazophos, an organophosphorus insecticide, is a prevalent environmental contaminant that bioaccumulates in organisms and poses significant risks to human health. However, the organ toxicity of isazophos to aquatic organisms has not been previously characterized. The purpose of this study is to investigate the toxic effects of isazophos exposure on zabrafish liver, as well as revealing the underlying toxicological mechanisms. Acute and chronic toxicity assessments showed 72 h and 28 days lethal concentration (LC) values of 2.612 mg/L and 0.172 mg/L for zebrafish embryos and adult zebrafish, respectively. The level of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH) and inflammation related genes revealed that isazophos affects early zebrafish development and causes liver damage via reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced oxidative stress and inflammatory with upregulated pro-inflammatory factors (il-6, il-8, il-1β and TNF-α). Moreover, when exposed to isazophos, the glycogen content of the liver was decreased, while lipid accumulation was increased, and liver metabolism-related indices were changed. The ratios of pro-apoptotic genes p53, bax/bcl-2, caspase 9 and caspase 3 were upregulated. And the caspase3 and cleaved-caspase3 protein expression was evaluated in the isazophos group, revealing that isazophos caused aptoptotic. In conclusion, isazophos induces oxidative stress through the production of ROS, leading to the activation of pathways associated with apoptosis. The present study provides a systematic analysis of isazophos-induced hepatic effects in zebrafish liver and demonstrates that exposure to isazophos affects normal hepatic metabolism.

Microplastics (MPs) pollution in soil has emerged as a significant environmental concern, particularly regarding the interactions between MPs and chemical contaminants such as pesticides. This study focused on the aging of biodegradable poly(butylene adipate--terephthalate) (PBAT) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films in the presence of five sulfur/chlorine (S/Cl)-containing pesticides (prothioconazole, myclobutanil, isazophos, harmony, and flumetsulam), selected for their common use in agricultural practices and potential environmental persistence. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were employed to investigate the dynamics of heavy metal adsorption and release (specifically Ni, Cu, and Sn) during MPs aging, as indicated by changes in surface morphology and polymer functional groups.

Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, College of Public Health, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan, PR China. Electronic address:

Objective: The epidemiological evidence of human exposure to organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and prediabetes (PDM) is scarce. We aimed to examine the association of T2DM/PDM risk with single OPP exposure and multi-OPP co-exposure.

Methods: Plasma levels of ten OPPs were measured using the gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) among 2734 subjects from the Henan Rural Cohort Study.

Department of Social Medicine, College of Public Health, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, China.

Background: Pesticides are widely used in agricultural production to control insect pests and regulate plant growth in China, which may result in the presence of some pesticide residues in the vegetables. However, few studies of monitoring pesticides have been conducted in Henan Province. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of pesticide residues in commonly consumed vegetables in the regions of Henan Province.

The seasonal variation, spatial distribution, and ecological risks of thirteen organophosphate pesticides (OPPs) were studied in the Sundays and Swartkops estuaries in South Africa. Ten pesticides were detected in surface water samples from both estuaries, while all OPPs were detected in sediments. The highest concentration of OPPs (18.
