Article Abstract

Polycyclic molecular systems, which play a crucial role in the fields of materials science and pharmacology, typically consist of 2D extended organic aromatic rings. Extensive research has been conducted on conjugates formed through π-extension, leading to substantial advancements in the field. However, further exploration of novel conjugate systems is essential. This is necessary to enhance structural diversity and facilitate the development of advanced applications. Boron clusters, such as carboranes, are 3D aromatic structures featuring multiple C/B-H bonds. The functionalization of these C/B-H bonds offers a pathway for constructing a diverse array of carborane derivatives. In recent years, the extension of boron cages through the functionalization of boron clusters to generate hybrid polycyclic conjugates has attracted significant attention due to the promising properties and applications of these molecules. This review highlights the progress in boron cage modifications and boron cage extension over the past few years. It focuses on synthetic strategies and structure-property relationships of these hybrid conjugates.

To address the escalating industrial demands for high-performance polymers with both superior strength and toughness, a unique boronic acid imine cage (BIC) compound containing a Schiff-base structure is innovatively synthesized and covalently incorporated into the molecular chains of waterborne polyurethanes to obtain the elastomers (DWPU-BIC-x) with outstanding strength, toughness, tear resistance, and fatigue resistance. In-depth mechanism analysis reveals that BIC functions as a "structural hub", leveraging its rigid cage-like geometry and high-density interaction sites (aromatic rings for π-π stacking and nitrogen atoms for hydrogen bonding) to modulate molecular chain movement and intermolecular forces, thereby facilitating efficient energy dissipation under mechanical stress. The optimized material achieves an outstanding strength (53.

Polymerized Apoferritin: A promising carrier for efficient compartmentalized and deep-layer delivery of calcium donors in tumor Ca overload therapy.

J Control Release

Key Laboratory of Modern Chinese Medicines, China Pharmaceutical University, Nanjing 210009, PR China; Industrial Technology Innovation Platform, Zhejiang Center for Safety Study of Drug Substances, Hangzhou 310018, PR China. Electronic address:

Calcium overload is an emerging tumor treatment strategy that induces cell death by disrupting the homeostasis of calcium ions (Ca) in tumor cells. In this study, we have engineered a novel polymerized apoferritin carrier, utilizing reversible boronate ester bonds to interconnect the dihydrocaffeic acid modified ε-polylysine (ε-PLL-CAT) and 3-formylphenylboronic acid (3-FPBA) modified on the surface of individual apoferritin. This carrier is further compartmentalized with calcium phosphate and the calcium ion extrusion inhibitor curcumin.

Artificial photosynthesis of hydrogen peroxide (HO) from water and oxygen is a green method, which requires catalysts that can complete oxygen reduction and water oxidation reactions simultaneously. Herein, two cases of organic cage single crystals with an exquisite Archimedean polyhedron configuration (named and ) through the assembly of two different triangle motifs via dative boron ← nitrogen (B ← N) bonds are reported. Both cages possess big cavities (1.
