The study aimed to investigate the relationship between the systematic immune-inflammation index (SII) and stroke among American adults using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2011 to 2020. The SII was calculated as the platelet count multiplied by the neutrophil count divided by the lymphocyte count. Weighted multivariate logistic analysis was used to estimate the relationship between SII and stroke, with subgroup and sensitivity analyses conducted to explore potential moderators and ensure result stability. The findings revealed that a higher SII was associated with increased susceptibility to stroke, particularly in females, after adjusting for covariates. Further prospective studies are needed to investigate the relationship between SII and different subtypes of stroke.

Background: Poor hand dexterity may increase the risk of functional disability; however, few studies have examined the relationship between hand dexterity and incident functional disability. The aim of this study was to prospectively investigate the dose-response association of hand dexterity with incident functional disability in community-dwelling older adults.
Methods: This study included 1,069 older adults aged ≥65 years in Kasama City, Japan.

Promoting intergenerational altruism among the current youth generation is crucial, and belief in a just world (BJW) may be a protective factor for intergenerational altruism. Inspired by the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotion, our research aims to investigate the relationship between BJW and intergenerational altruism among youths as well as to explore the mediating role of subjective well-being and the moderating role of authenticity in the focal relationship. Three empirical sub-studies with cross-sectional, experimental, and longitudinal designs were performed.

Objectives: To investigate the role of ferroptosis in diquat-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and its molecular mechanisms.
Methods: Transgenic zebrafish models with Tg (Eco.Tshb:EGFP) labeling of the renal tubules and Tg (lyz:dsRed2) labeling of the neutrophils were both divided into control group, gentamicin (positive control) group, diquat poisoning group, ferroptosis inhibitor group.

ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC) antibodies and the pattern of MRI changes in cats with complex partial seizures with orofacial involvement (CPSOFI), as well as to investigate whether there are factors influencing survival that could be used as prognostic markers in those cats.MethodsCats with CPSOFI were identified retrospectively. The following data were retrieved from the hospital database: signalment, age at first seizure and presentation, the presence of antibodies against VGKC (leucine-rich glioma inactivating factor 1 (LGI1), contactin-associated protein 2 (CASPR2)) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis findings.

Global phosphorus (P) resources are facing a depletion crisis, and pyrolysis of P-rich sewage sludge (SS) offers significant resource potential. Optimizing pyrolysis conditions remains key yet challenging for enhancing P retention and bioavailability. This study conducted a correlation-prediction-causation integrated framework (CPCIF) to investigate how heating temperature (HT), heating rate (HR), and retention time (RT) influence total P enrichment rate (BTPE), relative inorganic P transformation rate (BITP), and relative apatite P transformation rate (BAIP) from SS to biochar during pyrolysis.
