Article Abstract

Introduction: To investigate morphological features of crystalline lens in cataract patients and examine the association between lens nucleus sclerosis, axial length (AL), and lens morphology.

Methods: This retrospective study consecutive included 285 left cataract eyes at Peking University Third Hospital between July 2022 and June 2023. Lens parameters were measured using CASIA2 and IOL Master 700. Patients were sub-grouped by Emery-Little classification and AL. Statistical and regression analyses were performed.

Results: Severe nuclear sclerosis (Emery-Little grade IV) exhibited smaller back curvature radii (BCR; P = 0.008), lens diameter (P = 0.005), and greater lens decentration (P = 0.012). Long AL eyes (≥ 25.5 mm) showed higher lens decentration (P = 0.026) and lower lens tilt (P < 0.001). BCR strongly correlated with lens diameter (r = 0.904, P < 0.001). Regression identified lens diameter as the primary predictor of BCR (β = 0.758). Compared with the decentration of the lens (R² = 0.045), tilt is easier to predict (R² = 0.125).

Conclusion: The degree of lens nucleus sclerosis and axial length may affect the morphologic features of the lens. It may be considered that how the lens morphology with excessive nucleus sclerosis or abnormal axial length impact the efficacy and safety of cataract surgery.

Purpose Of Review: Modern presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs) offer a potential solution to address the rising postoperative demand and expectations for spectacle independence following cataract surgery. However, IOL calculation and selection becomes more complex when presented with previous corneal refractive surgery (CRS) or co-existing corneal conditions. This review explores the use of presbyopia-correcting IOLs in eyes with co-existing corneal conditions or surgically altered corneas.

Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation has become the standard method for cataract extraction regardless of its etiology. In modern phaco surgery, implantation of multifocal IOLs is considered the most advanced method for correcting aphakia following lens extraction. The wide range of available multifocal IOLs is promoting the ongoing discussion regarding the advantages of each type, as well as potential strategies for optimizing surgical outcomes.

Soybean saponins, a class of intricate oleanane-type triterpenoids predominantly present in soybeans, exhibit diverse biological activities. This overview summarizes recent progress in elucidating the biological roles of soybean saponins and their glycosides, encompassing anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, anticancer, and antimicrobial effects, viewed through a tectonic lens. Additionally, it explores modification methodologies encompassing physical, chemical, and biological strategies.

Models for polymer dynamics from dimensionality reduction techniques.

Polymer dynamics is analyzed through the lens of linear dimensionality reduction methods, in particular principal and time-lagged independent component analysis (tICA). For a polymer undergoing ideal Rouse dynamics, the slow modes identified by these transformations coincide with the conventional Rouse modes. When applied to the Fourier modes of the segment density, we show that tICA generates dynamics equivalent to dynamic self-consistent field theory (D-SCFT) with a wavevector-dependent Onsager coefficient and a free energy functional subject to the random phase approximation.

A new paradigm: culturally competent leadership for indigenous health care.

Leadersh Health Serv (Bradf Engl)

September 2025

Department of Marketing and Management, Northeastern State University, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, USA.

Purpose: This paper aims to introduce an adapted, culturally competent leadership conceptual framework for indigenous health care, aiming to improve health access and address gaps in Western-centric leadership models.

Design/methodology/approach: A systematic literature review and thematic analysis of 32 peer-reviewed articles were conducted, guided by transformational and cultural sensitivity frameworks to adapt a conceptual framework to support health access in indigenous communities.

Findings: The adapted indigenous leadership conceptual framework (AILCF) includes 11 interrelated leadership themes - visionary leadership, supportive and empathetic leadership, adaptive leadership, integrity and ethical leadership, communicative leadership, courageous leadership, cultural competence, community engagement and relationship-building, historical trauma and healing, structural change and leadership in crisis - synthesized through transformational and culturally sensitive leadership lenses to support equitable health access and culturally grounded leadership in indigenous health-care settings.
