Phacoemulsification with intraocular lens (IOL) implantation has become the standard method for cataract extraction regardless of its etiology. In modern phaco surgery, implantation of multifocal IOLs is considered the most advanced method for correcting aphakia following lens extraction. The wide range of available multifocal IOLs is promoting the ongoing discussion regarding the advantages of each type, as well as potential strategies for optimizing surgical outcomes. This literature review presents current methods for improving the performance of various types of multifocal and extended depth of focus IOLs.

Objectives: To characterise the chorioretinal (CR) manifestations of West Nile virus (WNV) infection using multimodal imaging (MMI).
Methods: Retrospective cohort study including 37 patients with confirmed WNV infection hospitalised at a single centre (July-September 2024). All underwent comprehensive ophthalmological evaluations, including visual acuity, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, fundoscopy, and multimodal imaging: fundus photography, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), fundus autofluorescence (FAF), fluorescein angiography, and indocyanine green angiography when clinically indicated.

Objective: To describe 5 confirmed cases of natalizumab-associated progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (NTZ-PML) in Japan.
Methods: The Nationwide PML Surveillance Committee requires mandatory registration of all natalizumab cases and reporting by affiliated facilities conducting JC DNA testing. Suspected PML cases were reviewed by the committee and classified as definite, probable, possible, or non-PML based on established diagnostic criteria.

: Spectacle independence is a key goal in refractive lens exchange (RLE), especially in younger, high-expectation patients. This study evaluates a novel extended monovision approach combining a monofocal aspheric intraocular lens (IOL) in the dominant eye with a rotationally asymmetric bifocal extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOL in the non-dominant eye. The strategy aims to optimize full-range visual performance while minimizing photic phenomena.

This study is aimed at describing a patient with unilateral retinal pigment epithelium dysgenesis (URPED) using multimodal retinal imaging combined with ocular microperimetry and multifocal electroretinogram (ERG) analysis. A 56-year-old healthy male was referred for a routine ophthalmologic control. His best corrected visual acuity was 20/20 and 20/25 in the right and left eye, respectively.
