Article Abstract

Two novel aluminophosphates, Al(HPO)(HPO) and Al(PO)(HO), were synthesized using hydrothermal methods, while another polar aluminophosphite, Al[PO(OH)](HO), was obtained via a low-temperature flux method. They crystallized in the nonpolar space group 6 and polar space groups of 222 and 6mc, respectively. The basic units of Al(HPO)(HPO) consist of PO/PO and AlO groups, in which one AlO octahedron coordinated with six PO tetrahedra/PO pyramids and one PO tetrahedron/PO pyramid linked three AlO dimers. However, the fundamental units for Al(PO)(HO) are PO tetrahedra, AlO octahedra, and AlO trigonal bipyramids, in which one PO tetrahedron is connected with three AlO dimers and one AlO dimer is linked with six PO tetrahedra, forming its novel three-dimensional framework structure. Importantly, Al[PO(OH)](HO) and Al(PO)(HO) demonstrate moderate second-harmonic generation effects in the UV region, with ∼0.15 and ∼0.68 × KDP, respectively. The syntheses and topological structures, compositional analysis, thermal behavior, FT-IR spectral characterization, Raman spectral analysis, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance along with the NLO performances of Al(PO)(HO) and Al[PO(OH)](HO) are discussed.

Kounis syndrome, also known as allergic myocardial infarction, is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition in which acute coronary events are triggered by an allergic reaction. The pathophysiology involves mast cell degranulation and the release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine, leukotrienes, and platelet-activating factor, leading to coronary vasospasm, myocardial ischemia, or infarction. We present the case of a female patient in her 80s with no prior history of coronary artery disease who developed anaphylaxis shortly after intravenous administration of co-amoxiclav in the emergency department.

Comparing Round Window Membrane Permeability Enhancers: An Animal Study.

Eur J Pharm Sci

September 2025

Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Intratympanic (IT) delivery of dexamethasone (DEX) is widely used for treating inner ear disorders; however, its therapeutic efficacy is limited by poor permeability of the round window membrane (RWM). This study aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy and safety of three pharmacological agents-histamine (HIS), 3% hypertonic saline (3% HS), and sodium caprate (SC)-as adjuvants for enhancing RWM permeability and improving IT-DEX delivery in a murine model. Following IT administration of each permeability enhancer followed by DEX injection, perilymph DEX concentrations were measured using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography, and DEX receptor expression in the organ of Corti was assessed by immunofluorescence.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Ligusticum chuanxiong (CX) is a traditional Chinese medicine with diverse effects, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroprotective, anti-nociceptive, and anticancer properties. It has been used in clinical applications with satisfying therapeutic effects. However, the underlying mechanism that contributes to the anti-pruritic effects remains to be comprehensively investigated.

Ionic doping is widely used to regulate surface acidity in catalytic materials, yet the microscopic mechanisms remain difficult to observe. Clarifying them is essential for acid catalysis design. Prior work showed that Cr doping into the AlO-based open-framework aluminoborate PKU-1 alters acidity.

Public concerns exist over whether land application of biosolids is a pathway of introducing large amounts of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) into terrestrial ecosystems. Ongoing research is investigating a variety of high organic matter (OM) and Al/Fe phases for use as amendments to reduce PFAS leaching from matrices including biosolids. Drinking water treatment residuals (DWTRs) have characteristics (e.
