Article Abstract

Objective: To explore the efficacy and mechanism of Coix seeds in treating herpes zoster (HZ) using an integrated computational approach.

Methods: Network pharmacology, molecular docking, and machine learning were employed. Disease-related targets were collected from multiple databases, and intersection targets with Coix seed were analyzed via PPI, GO, and KEGG enrichment. A "TCM-Ingredient-Target" network was constructed using Cytoscape. Molecular docking and dynamics simulations were performed for validation.

Results: Fifty-five overlapping targets were identified, with core targets including , EGF, and . Enrichment analysis revealed key pathways such as inflammation and immune regulation. Molecular docking confirmed strong binding affinity between active compounds and targets.

Conclusions: This study demonstrates that Coix seed exerts anti-HZ effects through multi-target mechanisms, providing a theoretical basis for developing novel multi-pathway treatment strategies.

Coix seed is easy to be contaminated with aflatoxins. To find out its detoxification strategy and explore its storage environment affecting the contents of AFB, AFB, AFG, and AFG, 23 batches of coix seed samples were collected, in which nine batches of samples were selected to make mildewed by the method of artificial cultivation and natural mycotoxin production. These coix seed samples were further processed with plain-frying and bran-frying, respectively.

Backgroud: The gut microbiota composition influences the pathogenesis of sarcopenia via the "gut microbiota-muscle axis", with probiotics serving as potential therapeutic agents. Coix seed oil (CSO), a bioactive component of Coix lacryma-jobi l., exhibit potent anti-inflammatory effects, however, its therapeutic role in rheumatoid sarcopenia (RS) and the underlying mechanisms of actions remain incompletely understood.

Background: Extreme humidity exacerbates gastrointestinal disorders by disrupting gut microbiota homeostasis, compromising the intestinal barrier and triggering immune dysregulation. Coix seed ( L.), widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for eliminating dampness, shows promise; however, its mechanisms require further elucidation.

Background: Coix seeds, with high nutritional values and health functions, widely grown in East and Southeast Asia, has been traditionally used as a healthy food and medicinal grain for more than 1000 years in China. This study aimed to characterize the structure of a novel polysaccharide from Coix seed (CSP-A) and investigate its digestion and fermentation properties by human gut microbiota.

Results: CSP-A is a water-soluble neutral polysaccharide (molecular weight ~ 2498 kDa) containing glucose and mannose with pyran group and α-glycosidic bond, and mainly contained α-d-Glcp-(1 → and →6), and α-d-Glcp-(1 →) two monosaccharide residues.

In order to understand the current situation of mycotoxin contamination and risk assessment of dietary exposure of coix seed ( sold in Gansu Province, China, a total of 67 coix seed samples were collected from the local markets and supermarkets in 14 prefectures and cities in Gansu Province. Sixteen mycotoxins were determined by isotope dilution liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results showed that 37.
