Aim: Cognition varies across people with psychosis, including within a specific diagnosis. An important issue is identifying psychosis-specific neuro-cognitive dysfunctions. We addressed this issue by studying patterns of relationships between cognition and multiple other measures in persons with psychosis, their first-degree biological relatives, and healthy individuals (largest possible n = 2826).

Background: Automated estimation of cortical thickness in brain MRI is a critical step when investigating neuroanatomical population differences and changes associated with normal development and aging, as well as in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. The limited spatial resolution of the scanner leads to partial volume effects, where each voxel in the scanned image may represent a mixture of more than one type of tissue. Due to the highly convoluted structure of the cortex, this can have a significant impact on the accuracy of thickness estimates, particularly if a hard intensity threshold is used to delineate cortical boundaries.

Serine Incorporator 2(SERINC2), a highly conserved eukaryotic membrane lipid regulator, promotes critical membrane lipid biosynthesis to maintain neuronal metabolic homeostasis by assembling serine synthase complexes. Our team previously identified SERINC2 as a bipolar disorder (BD) risk gene in Chinese Han familial BD cases, with mutations affecting cerebral white matter volume. Despite established clinical relevance, brain expression patterns of SERINC2 remains poorly characterized experimentally.

The parabrachial nucleus (PBN) relays interoceptive and exteroceptive information to limbic brain regions. In particular, lateral PBN projections to the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) are thought to encode the affective dimension of pain. Pain in the orofacial region is thought to be more unpleasant than pain elsewhere in the body because the face plays an important role in social interactions, feeding, and exploration.

Mental processing delineates the functions of human mind encompassing a wide range of motor, sensory, emotional, and cognitive processes, each of which is underlain by the neuroanatomical substrates. Identifying accurate representation of functional neuroanatomy substrates of mental processing could inform understanding of its neural mechanism. The challenge is that it is unclear whether a specific mental process possesses a 'functional neuroanatomy fingerprint', i.
