Article Abstract

Background: This study was carried out to investigate the individual and combined contamination of aflatoxin B (AFB), deoxynivalenol (DON), and zearalenone (ZEN) in feeds in China between 2021 and 2024. A total of 23,003 feed samples, including 17,489 feedstuff samples and 5,514 complete feed samples, were collected from different provinces of China for mycotoxin analysis.

Results: The analyzed mycotoxins displayed considerably high contamination in the feed samples, with the individual contamination of AFB, DON, and ZEN were 20.0%-100%, 33.3%-100%, and 85.0%-100%, respectively. The average concentrations of AFB, DON, and ZEN were 1.2-728.7 μg/kg, 106-8,634.8 μg/kg, and 18.1-3,341.6 μg/kg, respectively. Notably, the rates over China's safety standards for AFB, DON, and ZEN in raw ingredients were 9.7%, 2.7%, and 15.7%, respectively. Meanwhile, 3.5%, 1.1%, and 8.7% of analyzed complete feeds exceeded China's safety standards for AFB, DON, and ZEN, respectively. Moreover, the co-contamination rates of AFB, DON, and ZEN in more than 70% of raw ingredients and 87.5% of complete feed products were 60.0%-100% and 61.5%-100%, respectively.

Conclusion: This study reveals that the feeds in China have commonly been contaminated with AFB, DON, and ZEN alone and their combination during the past four years. These findings highlight the significance of monitoring mycotoxin contaminant levels in domestic animal feed and the importance of carrying out feed administration and remediation strategies for mycotoxin control.

Mycotoxin in grape and its products (wine, raisin) is a widely concerned issue of food safety, it closely associated with consumers' health. In this study, an analytical strategy by combining second-order calibration method with excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence detection followed photo derivatization (PD) was explored for rapid and sensitive analysis of aflatoxin B (AFB), ochratoxin A (OTA), zearalenone (ZEA) in grape, raisin and wine. Except simple solvent extraction by ethyl acetate and concentration by vacuum distillation, samples don't need other complicated treatment steps any more.

Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by various fungi that contaminate livestock feed, posing serious threats to animal health, productivity, and food safety. Although historical research has often examined individual mycotoxins in isolation, real-world conditions typically involve the simultaneous presence of multiple mycotoxins, resulting in additive or synergistic toxic effects that are often more severe than those observed with single toxin exposures. This review comprehensively synthesizes recent findings on multi-mycotoxin contamination in livestock feed, highlighting their physiological effects, mechanisms of action, and implications for regulatory frameworks.

Mycotoxins, such as aflatoxins (AFs), deoxynivalenol (DON), zearalenone (ZEN), and ochratoxin A (OTA), present significant health risks due to their carcinogenic and toxic properties. This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the global prevalence, concentration, and associated health risks of mycotoxins in domestic bird eggs. Following the PRISMA guideline, a comprehensive search was performed across PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (2005-2024).

Nowadays, there is special interest in promoting the consumption of ancestral crops and minimally processed foods with high nutritional value. However, besides nutritional issues, safety assessments must be addressed. This study aimed to evaluate mycotoxin contamination in five minimally processed traditional Ecuadorian foods: ochratoxin A (OTA), fumonisin B (FB), and aflatoxins (AFs) in brown rice, lupin, and quinoa; OTA, FB, and deoxynivalenol (DON) in whole-wheat flour; and OTA and AFs in peanuts.

A novel mycotoxin-degrading enzyme complex (MDE), developed via a microcapsule coating process and containing three degrading enzymes, exhibits the ability to biodegrade aflatoxin B (AFB), deoxynivalenol (DON) and zearalenone (ZEN). This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of MDE against AFB, DON, and ZEN through in vitro and in vivo experiments. In vitro simulated digestion experiments revealed that the MDE degraded the concentrations of AFB, DON, and ZEN by 76.
