The objective of this study was to determine whether hydroxy-selenomethionine (OH-SeMet) exerts better protective effects on sows against heat stress than sodium selenite (SeNa) or seleno-yeast (SeY). A total of 60 sows (Landrace × Yorkshire) were randomly allocated into the three groups and fed a base diet supplemented with SeNa, SeY, or OH-SeMet at 0.3 mg Se/kg under a heat stress condition for a reproductive cycle.

Background: This study was carried out to investigate the individual and combined contamination of aflatoxin B (AFB), deoxynivalenol (DON), and zearalenone (ZEN) in feeds in China between 2021 and 2024. A total of 23,003 feed samples, including 17,489 feedstuff samples and 5,514 complete feed samples, were collected from different provinces of China for mycotoxin analysis.

Results: The analyzed mycotoxins displayed considerably high contamination in the feed samples, with the individual contamination of AFB, DON, and ZEN were 20.

Article Synopsis
  • * A systematic review and meta-analysis of 11 studies involving nearly 12,000 IS patients showed that high baseline Lp(a) levels significantly increase the risk of unfavorable outcomes, especially right after the stroke and within the first six months.
  • * The findings suggest that monitoring Lp(a) levels could be important in understanding and managing stroke recovery, though the connection is somewhat influenced by the levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).

Background: We investigated the presence of Chlamydia psittaci in poultry and the environment in live poultry wholesale markets in Changsha during 2021-2022 and conducted a phylogenetic analysis to understand its distribution in this market.

Methods: In total, 483 samples were analyzed using real-time polymerase chain reaction and 17 C. psittaci-positive samples using high-throughput sequencing, BLAST similarity, and phylogenetic analysis.

Background: The H3N8 avian influenza virus (AIV) has been circulating in wild birds, with occasional interspecies transmission to mammals. The first human infection of H3N8 subtype occurred in Henan Province, China, in April, 2022. We aimed to investigate clinical, epidemiological, and virological data related to a second case identified soon afterwards in Hunan Province, China.

Methionine, as an essential amino acid, play roles in antioxidant defense and the regulation of immune responses. This study was designed to determine the effects and mechanisms of increased consumption of methionine by sows and piglets on the capacity of the progeny to counteract lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge-induced injury in the liver and spleen of piglets. Primiparous sows ( = 10/diet) and their progeny were fed a diet that was adequate in sulfur amino acids (CON) or CON + 25% total sulfur amino acids as methionine from gestation day 85 to postnatal day 35.

In routine surveillance for avian influenza viruses (AIVs) in the environments of live poultry markets (LPMs), certain samples were positive for AIVs type A while negative for subtypes (e.g., H5, H7, and H9).

Chronic liver diseases (CLDs) are correlated with oxidative stress induced by the accumulation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, we employed HepG2, a human liver carcinoma cell line containing many antioxidant enzymes, to explore the function of delphinidin against oxidative stress induced by HO and to provide scientific data of the molecular mechanism. Cells were pretreated with different concentrations of delphinidin (10 mol/L, 20 mol/L, and 40 mol/L) for 2 h before treatment with 750 M HO for 1 h.

This study investigated the effects and molecular mechanism of a combination of capsaicin and capsiate on promoting lipid metabolism and inducing browning in 3T3-L1 white adipocytes. The combination significantly suppressed lipid accumulation in adipocytes ( p = 0.019) and robustly improved lipid metabolic profiles, including decreased triacylglycerol (0.
