Background/aim: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common sexually transmitted infectious agent and, in cases of persistent infection, may cause cancer. This study evaluated the toxicological and antitumor properties of extract (MSE) in KP14HPV16 mice, which carry HPV16 oncogenes.
Materials And Methods: Thirty-three female FVB/n mice (), including 17 HPV-transgenic and 16 wild-type (WT) mice, were divided into six groups. The control groups received tap water (WT-C, =5, and HPV-C, =6), while the treatment groups received either 0.50 mg/ml MSE (WT-50 and HPV-50, =6) or 0.55 mg/ml MSE (WT-55 and HPV-55, =5) in drinking water for 28 days. Afterwards, animals were sacrificed, and blood and organs were collected for histopathological and biochemical analysis.
Results: The main phenolic compounds in MSE were rosmarinic acid and luteolin--glucoronide. MSE did not significantly affect weight gain in WT mice; however, WT-55 gained significantly more weight than HPV-55. MSE demonstrated antioxidant activity as indicated by the modulation of hepatic superoxide dismutase and glutathione S-transferase (GST) activity, as well as renal GST activity, in MSE-treated HPV groups. MSE did not reduce histological lesion incidence or systemic inflammation in HPV16-transgenic mice.
Conclusion: In general, while MSE was safe and exhibited antioxidant activity, it did not significantly impact HPV16-induced lesions, warranting further research to assess systemic effects with different concentrations and durations.

Metaheuristic optimization algorithms often face challenges such as complex modeling, limited adaptability, and a tendency to get trapped in local optima when solving complex optimization problems. To enhance algorithm performance, this paper proposes an enhanced Secretary Bird Optimization Algorithm (MESBOA) based on a precise elimination mechanism and boundary control. The algorithm integrates three key strategies: a precise population elimination strategy, which optimizes the population structure by eliminating individuals with low fitness and intelligently generating new ones; a lens imaging-based opposition learning strategy, which expands the exploration of the solution space through reflection and scaling to reduce the risk of local optima; and a boundary control strategy based on the best individual, which effectively constrains the search range to avoid inefficient searches and premature convergence.

Background: Influenza remains a significant public health challenge worldwide, necessitating robust forecasting models to facilitate timely interventions and resource allocation. The aim of this study was to develop a long short-term memory (LSTM)-based short-term forecasting model to accurately predict weekly influenza case counts in Tokyo, Japan.
Method: By using weekly time-series data on influenza incidence in Tokyo from 2000 to 2019, along with meteorological variables, we developed four distinct models to evaluate the impact of the external variables of mean temperature, relative humidity, and national public holidays.

DNAzymes possessing kinase-like activities have long held theoretical promise, yet their practical implementation has remained significantly limited. Notably, DNAzyme kinase 1 (DK1), discovered over two decades ago, exhibits a unique self-phosphorylation capability upon encountering specific substrates like ATP, but its broad-based and programmable applications have not yet been fully realized. In this study, we innovatively couple DK1's autophosphorylation mechanism with the PfAgo to establish a novel programmable cascade sensing platform named RASTEN (Robust pfAgo-based Strategy for POC Testing Non-nucleic Acid and Nucleic Acid).

Early intervention in impending myasthenic crisis (IMC) is critical to avert life-threatening progression. This study compared the clinical effectiveness and safety of the novel FcRn antagonist efgartigimod versus intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) in IMC management. In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed 51 acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive (AChR-Ab+) IMC patients who received either efgartigimod (n = 30) or IVIg (n = 21) from June 2023 to November 2024.

In engineering structure performance monitoring, capturing real-time on-site data and conducting precise analysis are critical for assessing structural condition and safety. However, equipment instability and complex on-site environments often lead to data anomalies and gaps, hindering accurate performance evaluation. This study, conducted within a wind farm reinforcement project in Shandong Province, addresses these challenges by focusing on anomaly detection and data imputation for weld nail strain, anchor cable axial force, and concrete strain.
