Article Abstract

Three structurally related cadmium coordination polymers CP1-CP3 {[Cd(Pebpeb)(L)] (CP1), [Cd(Pebpeb)(L)] (CP2) and [Cd(Pebpeb)(L)]·HL (CP3)} were constructed from the photoactive alkene ligand Pebpeb (Pebpeb = 4,4'-((1,1')-(5-(pyridin-3-ylethynyl)-1,3-phenylene)bis(ethene-2,1-diyl))dipyridine; HL = 3-chlorobenzoic acid; HL = 3-nitrobenzoic acid; HL = 3-isopropyl benzoic acid) and Cd(II) ions in the presence of different auxiliary carboxylic acids. Different conformations of the functional olefinic ligand Pebpeb were observed in CP1-CP3 despite their similar 1D chain motif. [2 + 2] Solid-state photodimerization occurred when crystals of CP1-CP3 were irradiated with UV light (365 nm) and each displayed different photosalient (PS) responses attributed to the different bulkiness of the auxiliary carboxylic acids employed. A simple photoactuating device was prepared using a CP1-PVA (PVA = Polyvinyl Alcohol) composite.

Efficiently activating inert C-H bonds while maintaining control over the selective pathways of complex chemical reactions involving high-energy species remains a highly challenging and as-yet unattained objective. Herein, we propose a novel concept called 'dynamic local free radical confinement-mediated mechanism' to efficiently achieve synergetic selective oxidation of toluene and hydrogen generation for the first time a CdS-CdInS semi-coherent heterojunction (CCS) under two-phase conditions. Surprisingly, the optimized CCS-2 exhibited amazing catalytic efficiency and long-term stability in gram-scale experiments and automatically separated the catalyst from the product.

Somatic embryogenesis receptor kinases (SERKs) are pivotal regulators of plant development and stress adaptation, known to integrate multiple signaling pathways, including brassinosteroid (BR)-mediated responses to coordinately modulate stress-related gene expression. While SERKs participate in biotic/abiotic stress regulation, their roles in heavy metal (HM) stress responses and BR-mediated transcriptional control under HM exposure remain unexplored. Therefore, we systematically identified 20 BraSERK genes in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp.

The Junín Lake basin, a critical high-altitude ecosystem in the central Peruvian Andes, faces severe contamination from potentially toxic elements (PTEs) driven by mining activities, agriculture, and urbanization. This study evaluates the spatial distribution, ecological risk, and human health implications of 14 heavy metals, metalloids, and trace elements in surface soils surrounding the lake. Using 211 soil samples, we integrated remote sensing, land cover classification, and Random Forest machine learning models with spectral, edaphic, topographic, and proximity-based environmental covariates to predict contamination patterns and assess risk.

The interfacial thermal conductance () between a cadmium selenide (CdSe) nanocrystal (NC) and three related organic ligands-olealdehyde, oleyl alcohol, and oleic acid-was investigated computationally. These ligands have the same carbon backbone but differ in the number and type of oxygen-coordinated headgroups (carbonyl and/or hydroxyl), leading to distinct bonding geometries involving monodentate and bidentate bonds. For a fully encapsulated NC, increases in the order of olealdehyde, oleic acid, and oleyl alcohol ligands.

Cadmium toxicity in plants: from transport to tolerance mechanisms.

Plant Signal Behav

National Beet Medium-term Gene Bank, Heilongjiang University, Harbin, Heilongjiang, China.

Cadmium (Cd), a non-essential heavy metal, induces severe phytotoxicity through oxidative stress and cellular homeostasis disruption. Chronic Cd exposure inhibits plant growth via leaf chlorosis, stunted stem elongation, and impaired root architecture, while disrupting physiological functions through chlorophyll degradation, membrane peroxidation, and antioxidant system collapse. This review systematically investigates plant adaptive responses to Cd stress.
