Article Abstract

We demonstrate direct generation of sub-40 fs pulses from a diode-pumped mode-locked laser using an ytterbium-yttrium codoped multi-component alkaline-earth fluoride crystal and a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. The Yb,Y:(Ca,Sr)F laser delivers soliton pulses as short as 35 fs at 1056.7 nm, with an average output power of 182 mW at a repetition rate of ∼65.7 MHz. By increasing the transmittance of the output coupler, the average output power scales to 322 mW at a somewhat longer pulse duration (49 fs) at 1052.5 nm, corresponding to a peak power of 87.9 kW and an optical efficiency of 32.4%. To the best of our knowledge, these are the shortest pulses from a Yb-doped alkaline-earth fluoride crystal.

The development of nonlinear optical (NLO) crystal materials with short ultraviolet cutoff edges is of great significance to laser applications and industrial development. Based on acentric AE-M-F (SrZrF (), CaZrF (), and CaHfF (), with AE = alkaline earth metal and M = Zr, Hf), a novel hydrated zirconium-based fluoride, KNaZrF(HO) (), was obtained through a cosubstitution strategy involving mixed alkali metal cations. KNaZrF(HO) crystallizes in the 2 space group and presents a unique three-dimensional {[ZrF(HO)]} anion framework composed of hydrogen-bonded {[ZrF(HO)]} chains.

Groundwater usage characterization in a tribal stretch infected with chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu).

J Environ Sci (China)

November 2025

Central Ground Water Board, North Central Chhattisgarh Region, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India, LK Corporates Tower, Dumartarai, Dhamtari Road, Raipur 492015, India.

This reconnaissance study was carried out in urgency as residents complained of groundwater contamination in a tribal stretch infected with chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology in central India where at least 100 people have already died and more than 300 hospitalized. Multi-indexing techniques were used to evaluate groundwater quality for drinking, irrigation, and industrial purposes. The comprehensive water quality index (CWQI) classifies ∼52 % of the 27 collected samples suitable for drinking, and ∼37 % partially suitable pending certain treatment.

Rare-earth fluorides have been shown to be promising scintillators for medical radiography applications. However, they are mostly explored in the alkali metal-based category, and it remains challenging to obtain alkaline-earth-based rare-earth fluoride (ALnF) nanocomposites with high scintillation performance. In this work, rod-shaped BaLuF (BLF) nanocrystals (NCs) are synthesized as a scintillation matrix by a facile liquid-liquid-solid hydrothermal method.

The capability of zero-order waveplates to manipulate the polarization of fundamental-frequency light has garnered significant attention in light of the rapid advancements in laser technology. In particular, zero-order waveplate materials in the deep-ultraviolet range (DUV; < 200 nm) are in urgent and short supply. In this study, three new aluminum fluorides, AlF (6/), BaAlF (4/), and LiKAlF (2/), have been successfully designed and synthesized through a strategy that combines the perfluorinated [AlF] group with alkali and alkaline-earth metals.
