Article Abstract

In this work, a new n-type small molecule consisting of a fused thiophene backbone and barbituric acid as the electron-withdrawing group is reported. For green-selective organic photodiodes, when combined with p-type subphthalocyanine, the external quantum efficiency reached 64% at -3 V, owing to suitable absorption properties, efficient charge separation and relatively good transport.

A new variety of nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NCDs) was produced using a hydrothermal synthesis method, based on propanedioic acid and barbituric acid as the sources of carbon and nitrogen. The NCDs were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Zeta Potential,X-ray Diffraction(XRD),Thermogravimetry-Derivative Thermogravimetry(TG-DTG),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Fluorescence Lifetime. The characterization results indicate that NCDs possess an average diameter of approximately 2.

An in-situ CO₂-assisted dispersive micro solid phase extraction was developed using a covalent organic framework synthesized from melamine and barbituric acid as a sorbent for the extraction of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions from honey samples. The structural and morphological characteristics of the sorbent were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry. The CO₂ generated by reacting tartaric acid and sodium hydrogen carbonate enabled rapid dispersion of the sorbent within the sample solution, ensuring optimal contact with the target ions.

In continuation of our efforts to identify novel herbicide lead compounds, twenty new 5-(1-amino-4-phenoxybutylidene)barbituric acid derivatives containing an enamino diketone motif were synthesized and evaluated for their herbicidal activities. The greenhouse bioassay results indicated that several of the target compounds, including , , , , and , exhibited notable post-emergence herbicidal activity, with sum inhibition rates exceeding 70% at a dosage of 150 g ha, which was superior to that of the commercial herbicide flumiclorac-pentyl (FP). The structure-activity relationship analysis demonstrated that the steric and electronic effects of the R group, as well as the lipophilicity of the target compounds, significantly influenced herbicidal activity.

The global outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 has emerged as a major public health crisis due to its rapid transmission and significant morbidity and mortality rates. In response, there is an urgent need to discover novel antiviral agents targeting key viral proteins. In this study, a new series of pyrimidine-2,4-dione derivatives was synthesized from barbituric acid and its thio analog, aiming to explore their potential inhibitory activity against the SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro).

A composite of gold nanoparticles decorated on baicalein/chitosan-modified zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO@CS-baicalein/Au NPs) was synthesized and tested in a gastrointestinal stromal tumor cell line. The prepared nanocomposite was characterized using SEM and TEM, FT-IR, EDX, XRD, ICP-OES, and elemental mapping. The heterogeneous catalyst demonstrated excellent catalytic performance in synthesizing pyrano[2,3-d]pyrimidines via a three-component reaction involving malononitrile, aryl aldehydes, and barbituric acid.
