Hepatitis B virus (HBV) poses a significant global health challenge, potentially leading to severe liver conditions, with currently limited effective treatment options available. Xiao-Chai-Hu-Tang (XCHT), a well-known Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) prescription, shows promise in clinical trials for treating HBV. Therefore, screening the complex components of XCHT, identifying the active compounds, and closely exploring the targets associated with hepatitis B may constitute an effective strategy for the development of new therapeutic drugs for the treatment of this disease. A systematic pharmacology and GEO chip analysis identified key targets and pathways for hepatitis B treatment and effective ingredients. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulation techniques were used to explore the affinity and stability of active compounds with core targets, while assessing the druggability and safety of the active compounds. The therapeutic effect of the active compound protoporphyrin in XCHT on hepatitis B were mediated through key targets such as AKT1, MAPK1, and LCK, as well as key signaling pathways like PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and Ras signaling pathway. Protoporphyrin effectively bond to active pockets of core targets and demonstrated favorable druggability and a high safety threshold. The study provided valuable insights into the development of effective treatments for hepatitis B.

Punicalagin, a polyphenolic compound extracted from pomegranate peel, has received increasing attention in recent years due to its antibacterial and antiviral properties. Punicalagin is capable of inhibiting bacterial growth at sub-inhibitory concentrations by affecting cell membrane formation, disrupting membrane integrity, altering cell permeability, affecting efflux pumps, interfering with quorum sensing and influencing virulence factors. Additionally, punicalagin inhibits viruses by modulating enzyme activity, interacting with viral surface proteins, affecting gene expression, blocking viral attachment, disrupting virus receptor interaction and inhibiting viral replication.

Radiation exposure initiates a cascade of reactions, including the release of reactive oxygen species, DNA double-strand breaks, and cellular apoptosis, leading to cell death, tissue damage, and potentially the development of cancer. Consequently, there is an urgent need to develop highly effective and low-toxicity radioprotective agents. Introduction: 5-Hydroxymethyl furfural (5-HMF) is a furan compound with a molecular formula of CHO. A novel isatin-thiazole-coumarin hybrid and three isatin-hydantoin hybrids were synthesized and assessed for their α-glucosidase and anticholinesterase inhibitory activities. Moreover, their anticancer properties have been observed against the breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231. The coumarin-containing hybrid exhibited the most potent biological activity across all assays.
