Both adsorption and oxidation occur and contribute to organics removal in carbonaceous materials based advanced oxidation processes, while the correction of adsorption and oxidation, and the role of adsorption in the veritable removal of organic are not clear. Herein, we investigated the performance of carbamazepine (CBZ) removal by peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activated by magnetic Fe-doped biochar through two models of pre-adsorption oxidation and synchronous adsorption oxidation processes. The adsorption process was better fitted by pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the adsorption mechanism was obtained by comprehensive analysis of equilibrium adsorption capacities, surface functional groups, specific surface area, pore volume, and I/I value. It is noted that pre-adsorption highly inhibited the further oxidation of CBZ in 0.5Fe@LSBC700/PMS system due to the occupied catalytic active sites. Total CBZ removal in pre-adsorption oxidation (45 %) was inferior to synchronous adsorption oxidation (∼100 %), as well as the veritable CBZ oxidation removal of 27 % for pre-adsorption oxidation vs ∼100 % in synchronous adsorption oxidation at 30 min. Oxidation degradation of CBZ based on radical oxidation was identified by quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance measurements. This work is conducive to identifying the role of adsorption during the removal of organics in the adsorption-oxidation process, as well as veritable adsorption and oxidation removal of organics.

Desorption processes of HO molecules from AlO(HO) ( = 3, 5, 7) and AlO(HO)H ( = 4, 6, 8) clusters were investigated using gas-phase thermal desorption spectrometry to evaluate the HO storage capacity and mechanisms of aluminum oxide clusters. The clusters stored approximately 10 HO molecules at ∼300 K, depending on the size (), and released them upon heating. Even after heating to ∼1000 K, 2-4 HO molecules remained bound.

Developing low-temperature gas sensors for parts per billion-level acetone detection in breath analysis remains challenging for non-invasive diabetes monitoring. We implement dual-defect engineering via one-pot synthesis of Al-doped WO nanorod arrays, establishing a W-O-Al catalytic mechanism. Al doping induces lattice strain to boost oxygen vacancy density by 31.

We systematically evaluated the DNA adsorption and desorption efficiencies of several nanoparticles. Among them, titanium dioxide (TiO₂) nanoparticles (NPs), aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) NPs, and zinc oxide (ZnO) NPs exhibited strong DNA-binding capacities under mild conditions. However, phosphate-mediated DNA displacement efficiencies varied considerably, with only TiO₂ NPs showing consistently superior performance.

An electrochemical sensor based on MXene/PANI/SnO nanomaterials was developed for the detection of 4-aminophenol (4-AP). In situ oxidative growth of PANI on the MXene surface effectively hindered the stacking of the lamellae and increased the specific surface area of the composites. Further complexation of tin dioxide with swelling properties of the structure provided adsorption and catalytic sites for 4-AP.

Cesium ions (Cs) are notable radioactive contaminants hazardous to humans and the environment. Among various remediation methods, adsorption is a practical way to remove Cs from water, and Prussian blue (PB) is well-known as an efficient Cs adsorbent. Although various PB derivatives have been proposed to treat Cs-contaminated water, soil remediation is still challenging due to the limited mobility of pollutants in soil.
