P3IPs activate autophagy by disrupting the GAPC2-ATG3 interaction and target TuMV 6K2 for degradation.

New Phytol

September 2025

State Key Laboratory for Quality and Safety of Agro-Products, Key Laboratory of Biotechnology in Plant Protection of MARA, Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Green Plant Protection, Institute of Plant Virology, Ningbo University, Ningbo, 315211, China.

Our previous work identified p3-interacting protein (P3IP) as a novel plant factor that interacts with rice stripe virus p3 protein and activates autophagy to mediate its degradation, thereby restricting infection. However, the mechanism of P3IP-mediated autophagy and the evolutionary conservation of its antiviral function remain unknown. This study demonstrates that two Arabidopsis thaliana homologs, AtP3IP and AtP3IPH (Arabidopsis P3IP homologs, AtP3IPs), similarly activate autophagy and confer resistance to turnip mosaic virus (TuMV).

Multiyear Drought Strengthens Positive and Negative Functional Diversity Effects on Tree Growth Response.

September 2025

Chair of Silviculture, Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources, Institute of Forest Sciences, University of Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany.

Mixed-species forests are proposed to enhance tree resistance and resilience to drought. However, growing evidence shows that tree species richness does not consistently improve tree growth responses to drought. The underlying mechanisms remain uncertain, especially under unprecedented multiyear droughts.

Using molecular methods to diagnose, classify, and treat neonatal sepsis: a scoping review.

Front Pediatr

August 2025

Department of Neonatal Research, Inova Health Services, Falls Church, VA, United States.

Introduction: Neonatal sepsis is a dysregulated immune response to bloodstream infection causing serious disease and death. Our review seeks to integrate the knowledge gained from studies of multiple molecular methods- such as genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and the gut microbiome- in the setting of neonatal sepsis that may improve the diagnosis, classification, and treatment of the disease. Sepsis claims over 200,000 lives annually worldwide and remains a top 10 cause of infant mortality in the US.

Mitigating Fox Predation on Freshwater Turtle Nests: Comparing Effectiveness of Three In Situ Protection Methods.

Ecol Evol

September 2025

Department of Ecological, Plant & Animal Sciences Centre for Freshwater Ecosystems, School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment, La Trobe University, Albury-Wodonga Campus West Wodonga Victoria Australia.

Freshwater turtles in the Murray-Darling Basin (MDB), Australia, have declined since the 1970s. Intense nest predation by introduced foxes likely contributes to these declines, disrupting juvenile recruitment needed to sustain populations. Traditional lethal control methods, such as baiting and shooting, have proven inadequate, highlighting the need for innovative conservation strategies.

Introduction: Body piercings in laboratory environments have received limited attention in biosafety literature despite their increasing prevalence in the workforce. The purpose of this review is to compile and collate the current recommendations, practices, and literature on wearing body piercings in and out of biological laboratories, thereby providing a clearer understanding of the topic, supporting biosafety professionals in developing informed institutional policies, and identifying gaps for future applied biosafety research.

Methods: Online literature reviews were performed, encompassing both domestic (U.
