Teachers have different perceptions of how to enhance student learning. Whereas some take a teacher-centred perspective, others lean more towards a student-centred approach. Many studies in higher education have invoked Korthagen's onion model (2014) to explain how teachers' perspectives can impact their teaching practices. Spanning six interrelated layers, this model contains both outer (environment, behaviour, competencies) and inner (beliefs, identity, and mission) aspects. Focusing essentially on teachers' outer aspects, previous studies have paid scant attention to how particular situations affect teachers' aspects and, consequently, how teachers perceive student-centred learning. In this descriptive qualitative study, we explored situations that encouraged or discouraged teachers to embrace student-centred beliefs, identities and missions. We held three focus-group discussions with 18 teachers from two Indonesian medical schools, performing a thematic analysis of the data thus obtained. We found that certain situations made teachers reflect on their inner aspects, which either favourably or adversely affected their acceptance of a student-centred learning approach. Teachers' outer aspects (i.e. their prior problem-based teaching and learning experiences, learning situations from their own training as well as clinical duties) strongly interacted with their inner aspects, thereby shaping their teaching perspectives. Understanding how specific situations can influence teachers' inner aspects might help institutions to design faculty development programmes that address teachers' specific educational needs.

Background: Mindfulness meditation (MM), originating from spiritual traditions but widely promoted as a secular and beneficial practice, is increasingly debated due to potential adverse effects, ethical concerns, and its ties with neoliberal imperatives, challenging its image as a universal remedy. Beliefs about MM strongly influence its reception, usage, and effects but remain understudied, especially in comparing meditators and non-meditators. Understanding these beliefs is key to clarifying how lay perceptions align or diverge from scientific frameworks and to grasp individuals' expectations and motivations, notably in clinical contexts.

The utilization pathways of coal macerals exhibit a significant variability. The efficient separation of active and inert components in coal is critical for realizing their high value-added applications. The liberation efficiency of coal macerals directly influences the accuracy of subsequent separation processes.

Background: Serious illness "is a health condition that carries a high risk of mortality and either negatively impacts a person's daily function or quality of life or excessively strains their caregivers."
Purpose: The aim of this review was to explore the contribution of massage and massage therapy to the mental health and well-being of individuals living with a serious and potentially life-limiting illness.
Methods: A scoping review was conducted following Arksey and O'Malley's six-step scoping review framework and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines.

Retinal degenerative diseases pose significant therapeutic challenges; however, optogenetic vision restoration offers a promising strategy that is independent of mutations and disease progression. Optogenetic tools consisting of photosensitive membrane proteins can be ectopically expressed in retinal cells, effectively converting them into artificial photoreceptors. This review outlines the development and application of optogenetic tools to restore light sensitivity in degenerated retinas.

The domestic and international research status was reviewed, analyzing the explosion characteristics of inert powders, active powders, and composite powder explosion suppressants from the perspectives of maximum explosion pressure and flame propagation properties. The explosion suppression mechanisms of powder suppressants were also summarized. Analysis found that the inert powder is mainly from the physical aspects of heat absorption, oxygen dilution, and the formation of physical barriers to inhibit gas explosions; the active powder is mainly from the chemical aspects of the capture of free radicals to interrupt the explosion chain reaction inhibition of gas explosions; the composite powder is through the physical-chemical aspects of synergistic inhibition of gas explosions.
