In recent years, the presence of antibiotics in the aquatic environment has caused increasing concern for the possible consequences on human health and ecosystems, including the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. However, once antibiotics enter the environment, mainly through hospital and municipal discharges and the effluents of wastewater treatment plants, they can be subject to transformation reactions, driven by both biotic (e.g. microorganism and mammalian metabolisms) and abiotic factors (e.g. oxidation, photodegradation, and hydrolysis). The resulting transformation products (TPs) can be less or more active than their parent compounds, therefore the inclusion of TPs in monitoring programs should be mandatory. However, only the reference standards of a few known TPs are available, whereas many other TPs are still unknown, due to the high diversity of possible transformation reactions in the environment. Modern high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) instrumentation is now ready to tackle this problem through suspect and untargeted screening approaches. However, for handling the large amount of data typically encountered in the analysis of environmental samples, these approaches also require suitable processing workflows and accurate tandem mass spectra interpretation. The compilation of a suspect list containing the possible monoisotopic masses of TPs retrieved from the literature and/or from laboratory simulated degradation experiments showed unique advantages. However, the employment of in silico prediction tools could improve the identification reliability. In this review, the most recent strategies relying on liquid chromatography-HRMS for the analysis of environmental TPs of the main antibiotic classes were examined, whereas TPs formed during water treatments or disinfection were not included.

The present study examined responses to COVID-19 at the beginning of the pandemic, April 2020, among a representative sample of 880 Poles. Participants described their religious beliefs, their emotional reactions to the pandemic, the changes they had made in their behavior since the onset of the pandemic, and their political orientation (left-right). Roman Catholics felt more threatened by the pandemic than non-believers, and Catholics reacted more strongly to the pandemic than non-believers in terms of feeling scared, paralyzed by fear, panicked, fearful, sad, woebegone, and lost, whereas there were no such differences on other emotional reactions.

The green synthesis method is a significant approach that offers several advantages, including simplicity, rapidity, and cost-effectiveness in the synthesis of nanoparticles. Iron nanoparticles were synthesized in this work using waste banana peel extract as a capping and reducing agent. The produced nanoparticles were then subjected to a number of characterization procedures, such as Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), zeta potential analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) absorption spectroscopy, field scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).

Methods: A model-based SEP-specific economic evaluation of the intervention was conducted. SEP-specific intervention costs and effects at age 5 years were derived from the trial data and applied to a cohort of 4- to 5-year-old Australian children.

With the deep digital transformation of traditional manufacturing industry and the continuous automation level improvement of production lines, it is more important to predict the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of processes in a timely and accurate manner. The traditional laboratory destructive test method for obtaining KPIs consumes a large amount of time and incurs high costs, which not only fails to provide timely and effective guidance for production processes but also results in significant losses for manufacturing enterprises. To address these issues, an online prediction soft sensor model for KPIs based on a serial-parallel gated recurrent unit with self-attention mechanism (SPGRU-SA) soft sensor model is proposed.

Catalytic pyrolysis, an efficient thermochemical process, offers a promising pathway to valorize thermoset photovoltaic backsheets (TPV) into high-value chemicals. This study investigates the ex situ catalytic pyrolysis of TPV using two acidic catalysts, ZSM-5 and FeNi-ZSM-5, under varied operational conditions, with a focus on product distribution and process efficiency. The catalytic intervention significantly enhanced pyrolysis performance.
