This paper presents a VIDAR (a Vision-IMU based detection and ranging method)-based approach to road-surface pothole detection. Most potholes on the road surface are caused by the further erosion of cracks in the road surface, and tires, wheels and bearings of vehicles are damaged to some extent as they pass through the potholes. To ensure the safety and stability of vehicle driving, we propose a VIDAR-based pothole-detection method. The method combines vision with IMU to filter, mark and frame potholes on flat pavements using MSER to calculate the width, length and depth of potholes. By comparing it with the classical method and using the confusion matrix to judge the correctness, recall and accuracy of the method proposed in this paper, it is verified that the method proposed in this paper can improve the accuracy of monocular vision in detecting potholes in road surfaces.

During the designed service life, road infrastructures will bear repeated loading conditions from vehicle weights and environmental conditions, resulting in the inevitable occurrence of road distresses including cracks, potholes, etc. The traditional inspection methods by transportation engineers are normally costly and labor-intensive. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI)-based road distress detection methods have been widely used as convenient and automated approaches, while the AI-based methods heavily depend on a large amount of high-quality images, limiting the real engineering applications.

When it comes to surgical interventions for varus malalignment and medial compartment osteoarthritis, proximal tibial osteotomy continues to be a cornerstone procedure-offering biomechanical correction, symptom relief, and a welcome detour from the highway to total knee arthroplasty. However, as with all detours, the path is not without its own potholes: loss of correction, patella baja, and increased posterior tibial slope remain persistent issues, particularly with the traditional medial opening-wedge technique. Attempts to avoid these complications can be done by taking special considerations into the type of osteotomy (medial opening wedge vs lateral closing wedge), fixation modality, the size of the opening wedge (or closing wedge), location and angles of the osteotomy cuts, and the use of allograft or autograft to fill in osteotomy site.

This paper proposes two chemical activators that are used to prepare mixtures for pothole repairs based on reclaimed asphalt. Repair mixtures, especially those used as "cold" mixes, must be characterized by special properties because they are primarily used in the winter period, i.e.

The accurate detection of road defects is crucial for enhancing the safety and efficiency of road maintenance. This study focuses on six common types of pavement defects: transverse cracks, longitudinal cracks, alligator cracking, oblique cracks, potholes, and repair marks. In real-world scenarios, key challenges include effectively distinguishing between the foreground and background, as well as accurately identifying small-sized (e.
