Cerebral salt wasting syndrome (CSW) is characterized by excessive natriuresis leading to hyponatremia and hypovolemia. It is commonly encountered among patients who have undergone brain trauma or subarachnoid hemorrhage. The occurrence of CSW after neurosurgical procedures has been frequently reported in the pediatric age group; however, it is a rare phenomenon in adults. We describe the case of a 59-year-old female who developed symptoms of polyuria and polydipsia after a right occipital craniotomy.

Chronic lymphocytic inflammation with pontine perivascular enhancement responsive to steroids (CLIPPERS) is a brainstem syndrome marked by punctate 'pepper-and-salt' enhancement on MRI and corticosteroid responsiveness. Evidence suggests that CLIPPERS may represent a cancer-related immune reaction, occurring before tumour detection, in association with active malignancy or after treatment. We report the first case associated with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).

Neutral lipids are vital to various cellular processes and disease pathologies. However, their characterization by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization imaging mass spectrometry (MALDI IMS) remains challenging due to poor ionization efficiency and difficulties distinguishing subtle structural differences among numerous isomeric and isobaric species. In this study, we enhanced neutral lipid detection by incorporating isotonic metal-cation washes into our MALDI IMS sample preparation workflow.

Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common dementing disorder, affecting 55 million people worldwide. Brain MRI plays an integral role in the diagnostic evaluation of patients with cognitive symptoms. When interpreting brain MRI for cognitive impairment, radiologists should assess the following four key features: (1) white matter ischemic burden, (2) structural changes to suggest normal pressure hydrocephalus, (3) locoregional pattern of brain atrophy, and (4) presence of microhemorrhage or superficial siderosis, particularly for determining eligibility for anti-amyloid monoclonal antibody (MAB) treatment when appropriate.

Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) has recently garnered extensive attention owing to its significant disease burden, insidious onset, and the absence of effective specific treatments. Poor lifestyle habits and chronic diseases are closely linked to its occurrence and development, eventually resulting in cognitive dysfunction. Therefore, improvement of lifestyle, stable blood pressure, effective glucose lowering, low-salt and low-fat diet, smoking cessation, moderate exercise and adequate sleep are the keys to preventing cognitive dysfunction in cerebral small-vessel disease.
