Objectives: Test the hypothesis the type of enamel caries (natural, artificial induced by gel, and artificial induced by acid solutions) affect the organic volume and the permeability of the surface layer in enamel caries lesions.
Design: Artificial enamel caries, induced by either acidic solution (organic-poor; Group 1) or acidic gel (organic-rich; Group 2), and natural non-cavitated inactive approximal enamel caries lesions (NEC; Group 3) were obtained, from which longitudinal ground sections were prepared. Measurements of the mineral (V) (by microradiography), and water (α) and organic (β) volumes (by optical birefringence) were obtained at three points in the surface layer (n = 30/group).
Results: The main outcomes were the ratio between experimental β by predicted β (β Ratio) and the ratio between experimental and predicted permeabilities (α Ratio). β Ratio in Group 1 was lower than in Groups 2 (Cohen's d: -1.81; 95% CI:-1.45,-2.32; p < 0.001) and 3 (Cohen's d: -0.71; 95% CI:-0.27,-1.18; p = 0.004), and Group 2 surpassed Group 3 (Cohen's d: 0.49; 95% CI:0.07,0.94; p = 0.03). α Ratio in Group 1 was higher than in Groups 2 (Cohen's d: 1.86; 95% CI:1.49,2.33; p < 0.001) and 3 (Cohen's d: 0.60; 95% CI:0.18,1.14; p = 0.01), and Group 3 surpassed Group 2 (Cohen's d: 0.61; 95% CI:0.23,1.07; p = 0.01).
Conclusions: The highest organic volume and the lowest permeability occurred at the surface layer of gel-induced artificial enamel caries lesions, which should be preferred in in vitro studies on de- and remineralization and resin infiltration.

Objectives: To assess patterns across 21 countries in dentists' thresholds for initiating operative treatment of active non-cavitated carious lesions and to evaluate the influence of caries risk, clinician characteristics, and geographic variation on decision-making in accordance with current guidelines.
Methods: A cross-sectional, vignette-style web-based survey was conducted between June and October 2023 across 21 countries. A standardized questionnaire, comprising theoretical radiographic scenarios of occlusal and approximal active non-cavitated carious lesions at four progressive stages (E1,E2,EDJ,D1), was distributed to general dentists and specialists.

Objectives: to evaluate the effect of smear-layer deproteinization using papain gel and SPRG-adhesive on marginal-gap, anti-demineralization of enamel and dentin after chemical pH cycling and assess acid-base resistance zone (ABRZ) characteristics.
Methods: Cylindrical cavities were prepared cervically in thirty-two extracted premolars. Teeth were divided into two pretreatment groups (n=16); deproteinization with papain enzyme gel (Papacarie Due, Brazil) for 60 second, and no-deproteinization.

White spot lesions (WSLs) are the most common complication of orthodontic treatment, compromising dental health and significantly affecting aesthetics. To address this clinical challenge, this study aims to develop a dual-functional therapeutic strategy that simultaneously promotes the remineralization of demineralized enamel and inhibits the activity of cariogenic bacteria, thereby achieving effective prevention and treatment of WSLs. A hollow double-shell structured CuO@N/C nanozyme (H-CuO@N/C) was synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal method.

The progression of dental caries is exacerbated by the presence of bacterial biofilms on carious enamel surfaces, which inhibit remineralization and exacerbate caries. Existing caries treatment protocols are often complex and costly. To simultaneously eradicate caries-associated biofilms and repair demineralized enamel, this study develope a starch-based gum containing calcium carbonate nanoparticles loaded with L-arginine (CaCO@L-Arg) and glucose oxidase (GOx).

Objectives: Through the investigation of the microhardness and microstructure of permanent tooth enamel at various eruption stages during childhood, this research offers references for the early prevention of childhood dental caries.
Methods: Forty-five premolars extracted due to orthodontic reasons were collected and screened. These premolars were divided into three experimental groups according to the time since eruption: Group A (erupted for 0-1 year), Group B (erupted for 1-3 years), and Group C (erupted for 3-5 years).
