A multi-component hydrogel was developed using bacterial cellulose, alginate, and gelatin with the aid of glycerol as trihydric alcohol which participates in re-distribution of hydrogen bonds in the test system. FTIR, XRD, SEM, and TGA as instrumental techniques were used to structurally characterize the physical/chemical properties of the formed composite hydrogel. By using an exponential equation, swelling behavior of the hydrogel was evaluated. By incorporating a model drug (methylene blue-MB) in the formed hydrogel, experiments were directed to study release characteristics of the MB where the medium solution for the release was prepared at four different pHs. The maximum cumulative drug release at pH 2.8, 6, 7.4, and 9 were 42.8, 63, 80, and 84.5%, respectively. Data fitting process was carried out using five kinetic models (Korsmeyer-Peppas, Higuchi, Hopfenberg, zero-order, and first-order equations) and the preferred kinetic model at each pH was estimated by applying TOPSIS algorithmic technique. The adsorption capacity of the hydrogel in relation to MB was determined while thermodynamic properties of this relationship were quantified ([Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]). The results of the present study were in favor of the potential usage of the developed composite hydrogel in drug delivery systems.

In this study, a novel hybrid hydrogel incorporating a scandium-based metal-organic framework (scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid) was developed using scandium nitrate, 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, oxidized pectin, and chitosan. The synthesized scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid demonstrated remarkable dual-functionality in both the adsorption of hazardous dye pollutants and the inhibition of pathogenic bacteria commonly found in wastewater. Characterization of the scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid was performed using FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDAX, CHNO elemental, BET, and XPS analyses, confirming successful MOF integration and a porous, reactive surface.

A novel electrocatalyst, zirconium ferrite nanoparticles (NPs) (ZrFeO NPs), was synthesized through coprecipitation and calcination processes at 300 °C and 500 °C using iron rust. The ZrFeO NPs were used as catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction. Furthermore, these NPs in an alkaline medium exhibited superior properties of a fractional order supercapacitor, based on which a prototype device was fabricated to demonstrate its energy storage applications.

Introduction: During the healing process, the functional gradient attachment of the rotator cuff (RC) tendon-bone interface fails to regenerate, which severely impedes load transfer and stress dissipation, thereby increasing the risk of retears. As a result, the treatment of rotator cuff tears remains a significant clinical challenge.
Methods: In this study, a dual-crosslinked hyaluronic acid/polyethylene glycol (HA/PEG) hydrogel scaffold was synthesized using hyaluronic acid and polyethylene glycol as base materials.

This study focuses on the issues of poor fluidity, low penetration into residual coal, and suboptimal inhibition of coal spontaneous combustion associated with traditional coal mine gel fire retardants. The permeability and flow characteristics of a sodium alginate-based composite thermosensitive hydrogel, as well as its fire prevention and extinguishment performance, were investigated. The findings suggest that the thermosensitive hydrogel behaves as a pseudoplastic fluid at 40 °C and a yield-pseudoplastic fluid at 65 °C, exhibiting shear-thinning behavior with increasing shear rate.

Injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) - based hydrogels face limitations in clinical longevity due to enzymatic degradation and insufficient mechanical stability. To address these challenges, this study developed a novel encapsulation strategy for fabricating crosslinked HA-poly(l-lactic acid) (PLLA) composite hydrogels (CHPs), optimized an L (4) orthogonal experimental design. Three critical parameters - PLLA loading (0-10% w/v), 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) concentration (0.
