This study aims to explore comprehensive kinematic patterns of all body joints utilizing a nonlinear functional data analysis (FDA) approach during a step-up task in patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). The kinematics of the trunk, pelvis, and upper- and lower-extremities during step-up exercises were assessed in NSCLBP (N = 23) and control (N = 22) groups using a Motion Analysis System. FDA was employed to compare movement-patterns of 15 segments between two groups.

Fabricating scaffolds using three-dimensional (3D) printing is an emerging approach in tissue engineering (TE), where filaments with a controlled arrangement are printed. Using fused deposition modeling in bone replacement enables the simulation of bone structure. However, the microenvironment created by the scaffold must meet specific requirements.

Geoenergy and geoengineering applications usually involve fluid injection into and production from fractured media. Accounting for fractures is important because of the strong poromechanical coupling that ties pore pressure changes and deformation. A possible approach to the problem uses equivalent porous media to reduce the computational cost and model complexity instead of explicitly including fractures in the models.

Natural biopolymer-based hydrogels especially agarose and collagen gels, considering their biocompatibility with cells and their capacity to mimic biological tissues, have widely been used for in-vitro experiments and tissue engineering applications in recent years; nevertheless their mechanical properties are not always optimal for these purposes. Regarding the importance of the mechanical properties of hydrogels, many mechanical characterization studies have been carried out for such biopolymers. In this work, we have focused on understanding the mechanical role of agarose and collagen concentration on the hydrogel strength and elastic behavior.

In this study the influence of viscosity and chemical nature of dispersed phase, preparation conditions and storage temperature on the properties of nitrocellulose emulsions produced by gel emulsification (G) and direct mechanical emulsification (D) methods were examined. Chemical nature of dispersed phase had no effect on the drop size for both methods; however it had a significant effect on emulsion stability. Viscosity of dispersed phase did not considerably affect drop breakage process in route G, while strongly affected drop breakage in route D.

The Wolf method is introduced to handle long-range electrostatic interactions as a viable alternative to the most common methods, i.e., the Ewald Sum and its modifications (PPPM, PME and SPME), the Reaction Field method, and the Lekner technique for predicting the structure of type I clathrate hydrates.
