Article Abstract

Third Pole natural cascade alpine lakes (NCALs) are exceptionally sensitive to climate change, yet the underlying cryosphere-hydrological processes and associated societal impacts are largely unknown. Here, with a state-of-the-art cryosphere-hydrology-lake-dam model, we quantified the notable high-mountain Hoh-Xil NCALs basin (including Lakes Zonag, Kusai, Hedin Noel, and Yanhu, from upstream to downstream) formed by the Lake Zonag outburst in September 2011. We demonstrate that long-term increased precipitation and accelerated ice and snow melting as well as short-term heavy precipitation and earthquake events were responsible for the Lake Zonag outburst; while the permafrost degradation only had a marginal impact on the lake inflows but was crucial to lakeshore stability. The quadrupling of the Lake Yanhu area since 2012 was due to the tripling of inflows (from 0.25 to 0.76 km/year for 1999 to 2010 and 2012 to 2018, respectively). Prediction of the NCALs changes suggests a high risk of the downstream Qinghai-Tibet Railway, necessitating timely adaptions/mitigations.

A defining hallmark of malignant tumours lies in their pronounced resistance to programmed cell death mechanisms. This intrinsic resilience enables cancer cells to circumvent physiological clearance, thereby sustaining unchecked proliferation and survival. Emerging research has revealed that metabolic dysregulation can precipitate a distinctive form of programmed cell death, termed metabolism-linked regulated cell death (RCD), establishing it as a novel paradigm of cellular self-elimination.

Fibrotic scarring remains a critic obstacle to axonal regeneration after spinal cord injury (SCI). Current strategies primarily concentrating on eliminating extracellular matrix (ECM) components neglect their dispensable roles in maintaining tissue integrity. Here, it is reported that the mechanical strength of an integrated hydrogel composed of hyaluronic acid-graft-dopamine and HRR peptide directs fibroblast migration, determining ECM deposition.

Perineural invasion (PNI) is a common pathological characteristic of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), closely linked to postoperative recurrence, metastasis, and unfavorable prognosis. Nevertheless, the precise mechanisms that govern PNI in PDAC remain poorly elucidated. Here, group-specific component protein (GC) is identified as one of the most significantly upregulated genes related to PNI, primarily derived from malignant ductal cells compared to other cell types.

Abscisic Acid and Calcium Signals Convergently Regulate Sugar Accumulation by Orchestrating the SRK2A/CIPK6-ABI5-TST2 Module in Citrus.

Abscisic acid (ABA) and calcium respectively work as crucial plant hormones and second signalling molecules in the regulation of fruit development and quality formation, including the sugar content and flavour quality. However, the regulatory mechanisms of fruit sugar accumulation arising from the interaction between ABA and calcium have not yet been fully elucidated. Here, we show that the application of ABA or calcium enhances sugar accumulation in sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) fruit, accompanied by upregulation of the expression level of tonoplast sugar transporter 2 (CsTST2), which mediates the transport of sugars into the vacuole.

A series of molecular logic gates with multiple biocomputing capabilities have been successfully fabricated by using four antibiotic residues [tetracycline (TET), chloramphenicol (CHL), kanamycin (KAN), and streptomycin (STR)] as inputs. The lateral flow strip biosensor was utilized to realize the visual and portable sensing of logic events. Four basic logic gates (OR, AND, XOR, and INHIBIT) and three cascade logic circuits (OR-INHIBIT-AND, 3AND-OR, and XOR-INHIBIT-OR-AND) were constructed.
