Catheter infection is the most common complication after vascular catheter placement, which seriously threatens the survival of critically ill patients. Although catheters with antibacterial drug coatings have been used, catheter infections have not been effectively resolved. In this research, a SiO nanosphere-coated PTFE catheter (PTFE-SiO) with enhanced antibacterial and excellent mechanical properties was prepared dopamine as a graft bridge. The microscopic morphology results show that the nanospheres are uniformly dispersed on the surface of the catheter. The physicochemical characterization confirmed that PTFE-SiO had reliable bending resistance properties, superhydrophobicity, and cytocompatibility and could inhibit thrombosis. Antibacterial results revealed that PTFE-SiO could hinder the reproduction of and . This research demonstrates the hydroxyl-rich materials obtained by hydroboration oxidation have the advantages of better dispersion of functional coatings, indicating their potential for helpful modification of catheters.

Some patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) have demonstrated evidence of exercise-induced arterial hypoxaemia (EIAH). However, EIAH was not quantified using , , and measurements as previously conducted in healthy adults nor was EIAH quantified alongside simultaneous measurements of pulmonary vascular pressures, cardiorespiratory responses, or dyspnoea on exertion (DOE) in these patients. Given the effects of hypoxaemia on pulmonary vasoconstriction, cardiorespiratory responses, and DOE, we tested the hypothesis that patients with HFpEF and EIAH (EIAH) would demonstrate higher pulmonary vascular pressures, worse oxygen uptake, and greater DOE compared with patients without EIAH (EIAH).

Background: Intravenous lipid emulsions are a key component of parenteral nutrition, and their fatty acid compositions may influence immune responses and clinical outcomes.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study conducted from January 2020 to December 2022 compared clinical outcomes of hospitalized non-critical care patients receiving parenteral nutrition with either mixed oil or soybean oil lipid emulsions for at least 48 h. The primary outcome was a composite of the presence of pneumonia, urinary tract infection, or an intra-abdominal collection diagnosed within 14 days of initiating parenteral nutrition.
