Article Abstract

Realizing durative flattened and dendrite-free zinc (Zn) metal configuration is the key to resolving premature battery failure caused by the internal short circuit, which is highly determined by the crystal growth in the electrocrystallization process. Herein, we report that regulating the molecular structure of the inner Helmholtz plane (HIP) can effectively convert the deposition into activation control by weakening the solvated ion adsorption at the interface. The moderated electrochemical reaction kinetics lower than the adatom self-diffusion rate steers conformal stratiform Zn growth and dominant Zn (0001) texture, achieving crystallographic optimization. Through in situ mediation of electrolyte engineering, orientational plating and stripping behaviors at edge-sites and tailored solvation structure immensely improve the utilization efficiency and total charge passed of Zn metal, even under extreme conditions, including high areal capacity (3 mAh cm ) and wide temperature range (-40-60 °C).

This paper systematically conducted a study on the microstructural evolution of tin foam prepared by the hydrogen bubble dynamic template (HBDT) under key deposition parameters, and established a growth model for three-dimensional (3D) porous tin foam based on the coupled effects of competitive reduction reactions and interface regulation. By exploring the competitive relationship between hydrogen evolution and metal deposition, a novel mechanism was proposed for the hydrogen bubble template, revealing the dual role of hydrogen bubbles in metal deposition under the coupling of tin ion concentration and deposition potential. It was also elucidated that the competitive equilibrium between hydrogen evolution and tin ion reduction was crucial for sustaining the dynamic stability of the bubble template, ultimately inducing the formation of 3D porous structures.

Aqueous Zn-ion batteries are promising candidates for next-generation energy storage devices due to the advantages of high safety, low cost and good environmental friendliness. However, the uncontrollable dendrite growth and undesirable side reactions occurring on the Zn anode result in poor cycling stability. Herein, a Lewis base, triethanolamine, is used as the electrolyte additive to construct a hybrid solid-electrolyte interphase layer composed of a static ZnSO·3Zn(OH)·4HO layer and dynamic quaternary ammonium ion adsorption layer.

Controlling the morphological evolution of electrochemical crystal growth in battery anodes is of fundamental and practical importance, particularly towards realizing practical, high-energy batteries based on metal electrodes. Such batteries require highly reversible plating/stripping reactions at the anode to achieve a long cycle life. While conformal electrodeposition and electrode reversibility have been demonstrated in numerous proof-of-concept experiments featuring moderate to low areal capacity (≤3 mA h/cm) electrodes, achieving high levels of reversibility is progressively challenging at the higher capacities (e.

Controlling lithium (Li) electrocrystallization with preferred orientation is a promising strategy to realize highly reversible Li metal batteries (LMBs) but lack of facile regulation methods. Herein, we report a high-flux solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) strategy to direct (110) preferred Li deposition even on (200)-orientated Li substrate. Bravais rule and Curie-Wulff principle are expanded in Li electrocrystallization process to decouple the relationship between SEI engineering and preferred crystal orientation.
