Article Abstract

The taxonomic terms "" and "" had been used to describe two sections within the genus belonging to the Lamiaceae family. Recently, phylogenetic analyses using molecular markers showed that and formed two monophyletic clades, and thus they are generally accepted as separate genera. In this study, we assembled the complete chloroplast genome of , which is the first reported chloroplast genome belonging to genus, as well as the complete chloroplast genome of belonging to genus. The results showed that the length of chloroplast genome was 151,639 bp () and 152,432 bp (), with conserved large single copy regions, small single copy regions, and inverted repeat regions. 121 genes in and 120 genes in were annotated. The chloroplast genomes of , , and three reported species, as well as those of 51 species from the Lamiaceae family, which covered 12 subfamilies, were subjected to phylogenetic analyses. The and species were split into two groups, which were well supported by both maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference tree analyses. Our study provided further evidence to recognize and as independent genera.

Plant mitochondrial genomes are characterized by their complex compositions and structures, large genomes, rapid recombination and evolution rates, and frequent intracellular gene transfer events. Centipedegrass, known as "Chinese turfgrass", is a warm-season turfgrass that exhibits excellent tolerance to both biotic and abiotic stresses. The chloroplast genome, with 139,107 bp, and the mitochondrial genome, with 564,432 bp, were both assembled into a single circular structure.

Introduction: Compared to the large number of chloroplast genome resources in , only six mitogenomes (belonging to three sections) have been reported. To date, no mitogenome has been reported for section , a representative species whose chloroplast genome has been characterized, is an endangered tree endemic to the montane cloud forests of southern China.

Methods: In this study, we assembled and annotated the mitogenome of section () for the first time using the HiFi reads.
