Article Abstract

HPLC-UV-guided fractionation of crude extract from the marine sediment-derived bacterium Streptomyces sp. CNP-944 has yielded two new pyrazine alkaloids, actinopolymorphols E and F (1 and 2), in addition to the previously reported biosynthetic product, actinopolymorphol G (3), and the known actinopolymorphol D (4). The chemical structures of 1-3 were determined based on the interpretation of the 1D, 2D NMR, and MS spectroscopic data. Compound 2 displayed weak antibacterial activities against Kocuria rhizophila, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 16, 64, and 64 μg ml, respectively.

Rational combination of homoharringtonine to selectively target FLT3-ITD acute myeloid leukemia through synthetic lethality.

Phytomedicine

October 2025

Liaoning Key Lab of Targeting Drugs for Hematological Malignancies, Department of Pharmacology, Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, Shenyang 110016, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Homoharringtonine (HHT), a natural product used clinically to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in combination with chemotherapy, induced transient remission in 25 % of unclassified AML patients when administered alone. Recent studies showed that HHT could be combined with targeting agents for AML treatment. However, the rationales of these combinations require further exploration to optimize therapeutic efficacy.

The protective mechanism of tetramethylpyrazine (TMP), an alkaloid derived from the Chinese herbal remedy Ligusticum chuanxiong, in relation to myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) is not yet fully understood. To investigate the therapeutic effects of TMP, we established an in vivo rat model of MIRI and an in vitro hypoxia and reoxygenation (H/R) model using H9c2 cells. First, TMP significantly reduced the infiltration of inflammatory cells in the myocardium, decreased serum levels of myocardial injury markers (CK-MB, cTnT and LDH), and alleviated myocardial infarct size in I/R rats.

Numerous clinical trials have attempted to improve first-line R-CHOP treatment of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) through the addition or substitution of drugs. The REMoDL-B trial, testing the addition of bortezomib (RB-CHOP), revealed that ABC and molecular high-grade DLBCL patients benefit from bortezomib. The aim of this study was to achieve a better understanding of the bortezomib response in DLBCL through a functional investigation of clinically identified markers.

Self-induced anaerobic fermentation (SIAF) of coffee modulates its chemical composition, and its investigation helps in decision-making about the ideal bioprocessing time. Using liquid chromatography, the influence of fermentation on the bioactive compounds was investigated. The results showed that caffeine, trigonelline, caffeoylquinic acids 5-CQA and diCQA presented the highest concentrations in unfermented coffee, while 3-CQA, 4-CQA, and nicotinic acid increased with fermentation.

Pyrazine-Functionalized Bio-MOFs for Selective Luminescence Sensing of Colchicine and Nitrofurazone in Aqueous Solutions.

Inorg Chem

June 2025

College of Chemistry and Materials Science, and Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Supramolecular Coordination Chemistry, Jinan University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510632, P. R. China.

By employing a mix-linker strategy, we have successfully synthesized two isostructural anionic microporous biological metal-organic frameworks (Bio-MOFs), showing excellent chemical stability across a pH range of 3-14 in the aqueous phase. Luminescence titration studies reveal that replacing the benzene core of the carboxylate linker with pyrazine leads to markedly enhanced energy transfer from the linker to the metal cluster, significantly increasing the emission intensity. This linker engineering strategy endows the MOF with superior performance in antibiotic sensing with limits of detection of 1.
