Excessive, high doses of ultraviolet B (UVB) UVB irradiation are known to cause skin cancer, aging and immunosuppression. On the contrary, moderate low doses of UVB irradiation are shown to be essential and beneficial to human health, including a tumor-suppressive effect. However, the mechanism by which low levels of UVB suppress tumorigenesis remains unclear. Here, using tumor-bearing mouse models, we show that moderate low repetitive UVB irradiation increases the percentage of activated CD4 and CD8 T cells, and CD103 conventional type 1 dendritic cells (cDC1s), while it decreases the number of immunosuppressive, M2-like macrophages in the tumors. Finally, in mice, deletion of Batf3, a transcription factor critical for the development of conventional dendritic cells, including the CD103 cDC1s, showed increased tumor growth in both sham- and UVB-irradiated mice. Our findings demonstrate that moderate low UVB irradiation inhibits M2-like tumor-associated macrophages, increases CD103 cDC1s and promotes antitumor immunity in mice with an established tumor.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation-induced photodamage remains a critical dermatological challenge, necessitating natural alternatives to synthetic photo-protectants. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-photodamage potential of fermented Sphagnum moss filtrate (SMFF) through integrated metabolomic, cellular and in vivo analyses. Untargeted metabolomics identified 933 metabolites, with fermentation significantly enriching taurine, glycine derivatives and phenolic acids while activating glycine/serine and taurine/hypotaurine metabolic pathways critical for redox homeostasis.

Background: Narrowband-ultraviolet B (NB-UVB) phototherapy is an effective treatment for psoriasis in patients who have failed topical regimens or those who desire to avoid systemic treatment. Despite its regular use in non-white individuals, NB-UVB treatment response for psoriasis in skin of color (SOC) has not been systematically reviewed.

Through a comprehensive analysis combining network pharmacology prediction and transcriptomics, this study systematically explained the multi-target mechanism of Cyanotis arachnoidea(CA) Gel in improving melasma. A melasma model was induced in female SD rats by progesterone injection combined with ultraviolet B(UVB) irradiation for 40 consecutive days, while the blank control group was only fed routinely. After successful model establishment, the rats were randomly divided into five groups and administered different doses of CA ethanol extract gel(high, medium, and low doses) or arbutin Gel(positive control), which were applied once daily for 28 consecutive days.

Photosensitivity is a hallmark of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE) and dermatomyositis (DM), yet the mechanisms linking ultraviolet B (UVB) exposure to tissue-specific autoimmunity remain incompletely defined. Here, we use an integrative human-based approach, including single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics (seqFISH+), in vivo UVB provocation, and in vitro modeling, to uncover a spatially coordinated inflammatory circuit that underlies interferon-I (IFN-I)-amplified skin pathology. We identify MMP9 CD14 myeloid cells as central effectors of photosensitivity in both CLE and DM.
