Rationale: Hypoxia in tumor microenvironment (TME) represents an obstacle to the efficacy of immunotherapy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) through several aspects such as increasing the expression of immune checkpoints or promoting fibrosis. Reversing hypoxic TME is a potential strategy to improve the validity of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB).
Methods: Here, we synthesized polydopamine-nanoparticle-stabilized oxygen microcapsules with excellent stabilization, bioavailability, and biocompatibility for direct oxygen delivery into tumor sites by interfacial polymerization.
Results: We observed oxygen microcapsules enhanced the oxygen concentration in the hypoxia environment and maintained the oxygen concentration for a long period both and . We found that oxygen microcapsules could significantly improve the efficiency of ICB against PDAC Mechanismly, combined treatments using oxygen microcapsules and ICB could reduce the infiltration of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and polarized pro-tumor M2 macrophages into anti-tumor M1 macrophages. In addition, combined treatments could elevate the proportion of T helper subtype 1 cells (Th1 cells) and cytotoxic T lymphocytes cells (CTLs) to mediate anti-tumor immune response in TME.
Conclusion: In summary, this pre-clinical study indicated that reversing hypoxia in TME by using oxygen microcapsules was an effective strategy to improve the performances of ICB on PDAC, which holds great potential for treating PDAC in the future.

Age-related cataract (ARC) represents a major global cause of visual impairment, with ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation recognized as a primary contributor to oxidative damage in the lens. FOXO3, a key regulator of aging, apoptosis, and oxidative stress-induced cell death, was investigated for its role and regulatory mechanisms in UVB-induced oxidative stress using human lens epithelial cells (HLECs). A progressive decrease in FOXO3 protein expression was observed in the lens capsules across various stages of cataract progression, as well as in UVB-exposed animal models and UVB-treated HLECs.

Probiotics play a crucial role in colon cancer treatment by metabolizing prebiotics to generate short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Colon cancer patients are frequently propositioned to supplement with probiotics to enhance the conversion and utilization of prebiotics. Nevertheless, the delivery and colonization of probiotics is hindered by the harsh conditions of gastrointestinal tract (GIT).

This study evaluated the effects of ginger extract, applied via four methods-direct addition, microencapsulation, and combinations with NaCl or eugenol-on stress responses and muscle quality in crucian carp during transportation. Among the treatments, microcapsules and the eugenol compound showed the best results, each achieving a 50% survival rate after 72 h. The microcapsule group provided prolonged antioxidant protection, stabilized water quality, reduced cortisol levels, suppressed pro-apoptotic gene expression (, , , , , and ), while upregulating the anti-apoptotic gene .

Anthocyanins are bioactive compounds widely recognized for their antioxidant and health-promoting properties; however, their application in food systems is often limited due to instability under environmental conditions. Purple onion peel, a rich and underutilized source of anthocyanins, was selected as a sustainable raw material for valorization. Encapsulation of anthocyanins derived from purple onion peel using different wall materials: sucrose (CC), HI-CAP, a modified starch known for its excellent emulsifying properties, and sodium alginate (ALG) were designed.

Background: Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of disability and cognitive impairment. Yindan Xinnaotong Soft Capsule (YD), a traditional Chinese patent medicine, is clinically utilized for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, yet its potential roles in post-stroke recovery remains unclear.
Purpose: To elucidate the protective effects and underlying mechanisms of YD on ischemic post-stroke recovery.
