Article Abstract

Cystargamides C and D ( and ) were isolated from a marine actinomycete strain collected at Beolgyo, South Korea. The planar structures of the cystargamides were elucidated by 1/2D NMR, UV, and MS spectroscopic analyses. The absolute configurations of and were determined based on ROESY correlations and the advanced Marfey's methods. The structures of the compounds were elucidated as new lipodepsipeptides bearing six amino acids with an epoxy fatty acid side chain. For the first time, the nonribosomal peptide synthetase biosynthetic pathway of the cystargamides has been proposed using whole genome sequence analysis. The cystargamides displayed antioxidant effect in the DPPH and ABTS assay. The discovery of new cyclic lipopeptides, cystargamides C and D, from a tidal mudflat-derived sp. supported that marine bacteria have potential as source of bioactive natural products.

(Bv) is a widely used biocontrol agent against plant diseases, mainly because its genome contains numerous non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS) gene clusters for the synthesis of various cyclic lipopeptides (CLPs). The domesticated strain Bv916, capable of co-producing four CLPs, has been successfully applied for green control of rice sheath blight and angular leaf spot. To enhance Bv916's biological control efficacy while maintaining environmental safety, it is essential to establish a food-grade gene editing platform in Bv916.

Staphylococcus aureus () is a clinically significant pathogenic bacterium. Daptomycin (DAP) is a cyclic lipopeptide antibiotic used to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria, including . However, DAP currently faces clinical limitations due to its short half-life, toxic side effects, and increasingly severe drug resistance issues.

In an antifungal screening of extracts from microbial strains isolated from gypsum outcrops in Granada, Spain, four new cyclic lipopeptides, glycinocins E-H (-), were identified from sp. CA-297274 and exhibited potent activity against , the causal agent of septoria tritici blotch of wheat. Isolation and structure elucidation performed using HR-MS/MS, 1D and 2D NMR, and Marfey's analyses, revealed that structures contained an Asp-Gly-Asp-Gly motif in the peptide scaffold, typical of calcium-dependent antibiotics.

Microorganisms in their natural ecological niches are constantly challenged by other inhabitants. Antagonisms exhibited by interacting microbial species are directed towards survival and increasing of their fitness. The Soft Rot Pectobacteriaceae (SRP) is a good model to study these complex microbial interactions.
