Article Abstract

Background: The aim of the present study was to explore the brain active characteristics of patients with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea (IBS-D) using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging technology.

Methods: Thirteen IBS-D patients and fourteen healthy controls (HC) were enrolled. All subjects underwent head MRI examination during resting state. A voxel-based analysis of fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (fALFF) maps between IBS-D and HC was performed using a two-sample t-test. The relationship between the fALFF values in abnormal brain regions and the scores of Symptom Severity Scale (IBS-SSS) were analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis.

Results: Compared with HC, IBS-D patients had lower fALFF values in the left medial superior frontal gyrus and higher fALFF values in the left hippocampus and right precuneus. There was a positive correlation between the duration scores of IBS-SSS and fALFF values in the right precuneus.

Conclusion: The altered fALFF values in the medial superior frontal gyri, left hippocampus and right precuneus revealed changes of intrinsic neuronal activity, further revealing the abnormality of gut-brain axis of IBS-D.

Purpose: Previous studies have revealed alterations of the functional connectivity of the brain networks in ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Fractional amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (fALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) are both voxel-based functional metrics capable of estimating local spontaneous neural activities. This study aimed to investigate the local spontaneous neural activities in AS patients by utilizing the analytical approaches of fALFF and ReHo.

Altered Lateral Geniculate Nucleus Functional Connectivity and Its Correlation with Retinal Thickness in Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma: A Resting-State Functional MRI Study.

Brain Res Bull

August 2025

State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology Visual Science, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is one of the predominant causes of irreversible blindness. Though the glaucomatous transneuronal degeneration pass through the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) in the visual pathway, the functional changes associated with the LGN remains elusive. The current study aimed to investigate the seed-based whole-brain functional connectivity (FC) of the LGN and its correlation with retinal thickness in patients with POAG.

Aberrant white-gray matter functional coupling in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment: evidence from resting-state functional MRI and machine learning.

Neuroreport

October 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, China.

Background: Emerging evidence suggests that blood-oxygen-level-dependent signals in white matter reflect functional activity; however, it remains unclear whether white matter function is altered in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) and how it interacts with gray matter.

Methods: We conducted resting-state functional MRI analyses in patients with RRD and healthy controls to investigate regional white matter activity using amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations/fractional ALFF (ALFF/fALFF), and cross-tissue white matter-gray matter functional connectivity. Voxel-wise analyses were performed to identify aberrant white matter regions, and seed-based connectivity mapping was applied using affected white matter tracts.

Longitudinal changes of regional spontaneous brain activity in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients receiving chemoradiotherapy.

Department of Radiology, The Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Jiangsu Cancer Hospital, Jiangsu Institute of Cancer Research, Nanjing, China.

Introduction: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a common malignant tumor primarily treated by radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy. Chemoradiotherapy frequently contributes to cognitive impairments, which are associated with abnormal brain activity. This study aimed to longitudinally explore the stage-specific changes of regional spontaneous brain activity in NPC patients during different phases of chemoradiation treatment.
