Indirect questioning techniques such as the crosswise model aim to control for socially desirable responding in surveys on sensitive personal attributes. Recently, the extended crosswise model has been proposed as an improvement over the original crosswise model. It offers all of the advantages of the original crosswise model while also enabling the detection of systematic response biases. We applied the extended crosswise model to a new sensitive attribute, campus islamophobia, and present the first experimental investigation including an extended crosswise model, and a direct questioning control condition, respectively. In a paper-pencil questionnaire, we surveyed 1,361 German university students using either a direct question or the extended crosswise model. We found that the extended crosswise model provided a good model fit, indicating no systematic response bias and allowing for a pooling of the data of both groups of the extended crosswise model. Moreover, the extended crosswise model yielded significantly higher estimates of campus Islamophobia than a direct question. This result could either indicate that the extended crosswise model was successful in controlling for social desirability, or that response biases such as false positives or careless responding have inflated the estimate, which cannot be decided on the basis of the available data. Our findings highlight the importance of detecting response biases in surveys implementing indirect questioning techniques.

Background: Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a major health issue in various societies, particularly in Iran, with detrimental consequences. In this study, we examined the prevalence of AUD using direct and indirect methods (Network Scale-Up model (NUS) and Crosswise model (CM)), as well as the factors associated with relapse, utilizing tree analysis.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study conducted among individuals aged 15-69 in Kermanshah Province, western Iran, 6,127 participants were selected using stratified sampling.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship of estradiol or body roundness index (BRI), respectively, or the coexistence of their changes with accelerated biological aging in male individuals.
Methods: A cross-sectional study with 1818 male individuals aged 20 to 79 years who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015-2016 was conducted, in which positive phenotypic age acceleration value was defined as the occurrence of accelerated biological aging. Weighted multivariate logistic regression models were established to evaluate the independent and joint associations of estradiol and BRI with male accelerated biological aging.

Fucoxanthin, a carotenoid with notable pharmaceutical potential, has attracted significant attention due to its efficient accumulation in marine microalgae and the importance of optimizing its induction conditions. In this study, was employed as a model organism to screen optimal conditions for fucoxanthin accumulation using a three-factor, four-level orthogonal design. Furthermore, the underlying mechanisms related to photosynthetic physiology and gene regulation were explored.

Optimizing phase-contrast micro-computed tomography (µCT) for a given object is not trivial if the radiation is polychromatic and the object multi-material. This study demonstrates how an optimal combination of propagation distance and mean energy (set by attenuation filters) may be derived for such an object (an electromotor scanned on beamline BM18 at ESRF in Grenoble, France). In addition to appropriate image quality metrics, it is mandatory to define a task.

Background: Intratumor heterogeneity (ITH) is a key biological characteristic of gliomas. This study aimed to characterize ITH in adult-type diffuse gliomas and assess the feasibility of using habitat imaging based on dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to preoperatively predict isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) genotypes and prognosis.
Methods: Sixty-three adult-type diffuse gliomas with known IDH genotypes were enrolled.
