Hemin as the organic linker ligand and Cu (II) as the metal center were applied to prepare a copper-metal-organic framework (Cu-hemin-MOF) via one-step hydrothermal method. Characterization using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) demonstrate that the acquired Cu-hemin-MOF possesses the appearance of 3D ball-flower shape with the existence of C, N, O, Fe, and Cu on the surface. Further study found that this 3D ball-flower shaped Cu-hemin-MOF exhibits peroxidase-like activity, which can catalyze the peroxidase substrate of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to generate 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP) in the presence of HO. DAP has a yellow color and also emits a strong fluorescence when excited by ultraviolet light. Interestingly, Cu-hemin-MOF's peroxidase-like activity can be strongly inhibited by glutathione (GSH). In view of this, a dual readout (fluorescence and colorimetry) was proposed to detect GSH for the first time. Under optimal conditions, the proposed method exhibits good linear relationship between the signal response (fluorescence and colorimetry) and the concentration of GSH, and low limits of detection (LOD) of 2.3 and 26.6 nM, respectively.Graphical abstract.

A surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-based sensing platform is devised integrating a TMB redox system for rapid dopamine detection. Gold nanobipyramids (Au NBPs), synthesized via the heat-mediated seed-mediated growth method, possess dual functionality of peroxidase-like activity and SERS activity. This enables them to catalyze the oxidation of TMB and simultaneously amplify the Raman signal of the oxidized TMB product (oxTMB).

Overcoming resistance to radiotherapy remains a significant challenge in breast cancer management. A one-step coordinated synthesis of BODIPY-integrated photodynamic nanozymes (FZBNPs) that facilitate an orthogonal catalytic cascade for radiotherapy potentiation is presented. The engineered FZBNPs simultaneously alleviate tumor hypoxia through catalase-mimetic oxygen (O) generation and amplify reactive oxygen species (ROS) production via peroxidase-like activity, synergizing with BODIPY-mediated singlet oxygen (O) generation under 660 nm light irradiation.

Background: Copper is a vital trace element that plays a crucial role in various physiological processes due to its ability to exist in multiple oxidation states. Inspired by natural enzymes, researchers have developed copper-based nanozymes that mimic enzyme functions, offering cost-effective and stable alternatives to traditional enzymes. Despite their promising properties, the design and synthesis of these nanozymes can be complex and challenging.

Background: Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) stands among the most toxic naturally occurring substances, with its acute toxicity characterized by the induction of acute hepatic necrosis, hemorrhage, and even fatal outcomes, thereby posing a profound threat to human health. Contamination of AFB1 in food commodities can arise at multiple stages throughout the production cycle, including cultivation, storage, and processing. This contamination cascade permeates the entire food supply chain, encompassing primary agricultural products as well as a diverse range of processed food items.
