Article Abstract

Two pyridine thiazole derivatives, namely, 4-(pyridin-2-yl)-2-(2-(pyridin-2-ylmethylene)hydrazinyl)thiazole (L1) and 4-(pyridin-3-yl)-2-(2-(pyridin-4-ylmethylene)hydrazinyl)thiazole (L2), were afforded by a cyclization reaction between -haloketone and thioamide, and their Zn(II) complexes were prepared by the reaction of ligands and corresponding metal salts, respectively, and characterized by X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis. Both crystals were obtained by ether diffusion and crystallized in a monoclinic system. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of the Zn(II) complexes and ligands was screened using the microplate reader method, and in vitro antitumor activities of the complexes were evaluated by MTT, with a view to developing new improved bioactive materials with novel properties. The biological activity studies of the compounds showed that the metal complexes were more active than the free ligands, and some compounds had absolute specificity for certain bacteria or cancer cell lines.

Introduction: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a leading cause of mortality in cancer patients, and a substantial number of patients are being treated with oral anticoagulants. We aim to assess the comparative effectiveness of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) compared to warfarin for VTE treatment in cancer patients.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we included 2,367 cancer patients who are new users of oral anticoagulants (OACs) for VTE treatment from 2009 to 2021 in NHS Scotland.

Advanced Applications of Vitamin B Complex in Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Benefits.

Int J Vitam Nutr Res

Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Center, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University, 310003 Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

The vitamin B complex, a group of water-soluble vitamins, is essential for various metabolic and cellular processes and critical for achieving optimal surgical outcomes in plastic and cosmetic procedures. This review examines the mechanistic contributions of this complex at the cellular level, including any roles in mitochondrial bioenergetics, redox balance, gene regulation, and cellular repair mechanisms. Niacinamide, as a precursor to NAD⁺, enhances mitochondrial efficiency and facilitates energy production, supporting tissue regeneration.

Background: Patients on second-line protease inhibitor-based regimens in low-income and middle-income countries have high rates of nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) resistance, but access to testing is scarce. We aimed to assess the efficacy of combination oral bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide in this population.

Methods: In this open-label non-inferiority trial conducted in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, adults (aged 18 years or older) with viral suppression (HIV-1 RNA <200 copies per mL) on second-line regimens including ritonavir-boosted protease inhibitors and two NRTIs were randomised (1:1) using a computer-generated random-number list.

In pursuit of novel antimicrobial agents, a series of thiazolo[5,4-f]quinoline derivatives incorporating pyridine and thiophene moieties were synthesized and structurally characterized using IR and H-NMR spectroscopy. The synthetic strategy employed diverse condensation and cyclization reactions involving cyanoacetamide intermediates, aryl isothiocyanates, and α-halocarbonyl compounds. The resulting compounds were evaluated for their antimicrobial efficacy against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans.

Unlabelled: flowers are an important component of traditional Chinese medicine for the treatment of various diseases. Studies on its secondary metabolites have largely focused on pyridine alkaloids yet a high-resolution metabolic profile of another important nutrient and coenzyme, the B vitamins, remains lacking. Here, we analyzed the levels of eight B vitamins in the inflorescence of by targeted metabolomics.
