Article Abstract

Herein, we construct a new series of N-heterocyclic ligand bipyridine-based porous hybrid polymers (denoted Bpy-PHPs) from the Heck reaction of a rigid building unit octavinylsilsesquioxane (VPOSS) and 5,5'-dibromo-2,2'-bipyridine. Surprisingly, the typical sample Bpy-PHP-4 was found to be a metal-/halogen-free heterogeneous catalyst in the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 with a few epoxides under atmospheric pressure. After coordination with ZnBr2, the resultant ZnBr2@Bpy-PHP-4 afforded largely enhanced heterogeneous catalytic activities upon the conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) and various epoxides into cyclic carbonates without using any co-catalysts under mild conditions. The moderate catalytic activities of Bpy-PHP-4 may be due to the presence of hydrogen bond donors (HBDs), i.e., polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-derived Si-OH groups and N active sites from Bpy linkers. In comparison, the high catalytic efficiency of ZnBr2@Bpy-PHP-4 should be attributed to the synergistic catalysis of Si-OH groups, N active atoms, and Bpy-coordinated ZnBr2. Moreover, the catalyst ZnBr2@Bpy-PHP-4 can be easily recovered and reused ten times without any significant loss of catalytic activities. This work affords an efficient metal-based porous hybrid polymer heterogeneous catalyst for the cycloaddition reaction of CO2 and epoxides under mild and co-catalyst-free conditions.

The rapid advancement of implantable medical electronic devices has spurred substantial research into implantable energy storage systems. However, the presence of multiple film resistors in traditional sandwich structures impedes further enhancements in the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors and may result in contact failures between electrodes and separators or catastrophic short-circuit failures during tissue deformation. This study introduces a novel approach for fabricating all-in-one Zn-ion hybrid supercapacitors, which effectively mitigates performance degradation and safety concerns arising from interfacial issues.

In this study, a novel hybrid hydrogel incorporating a scandium-based metal-organic framework (scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid) was developed using scandium nitrate, 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, oxidized pectin, and chitosan. The synthesized scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid demonstrated remarkable dual-functionality in both the adsorption of hazardous dye pollutants and the inhibition of pathogenic bacteria commonly found in wastewater. Characterization of the scandium-integrated MOF-hydrogel hybrid was performed using FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDAX, CHNO elemental, BET, and XPS analyses, confirming successful MOF integration and a porous, reactive surface.

Helically ordered chiral super spaces enable optical chirality in hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite crystals.

We present a supramolecular templating strategy for inducing chirality in hybrid perovskites via confined crystallization within chiral super spaces-nanoconfined, helically ordered cavities formed by the self-assembly of achiral bent-core molecules with chiral additives. Upon removal of the additives, the resulting porous films retain permanent chirality. Quasi-2D hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites crystallized within these templates exhibit distinct chiroptical activity, including mirror-image circular dichroism and circularly polarized light emitting (CPLE), with CPLE dissymmetry factors reaching up to 1.

Developing efficient, sustainable, earth-abundant, cost-effective electrocatalysts is extremely challenging. Cobalt-iron-layered double hydroxide nanosheets (Co-Fe-LDH NSs) hybridized with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) lead to anchors Co-Fe-LDH-CNTs (CFC) self-assembly with a mesoporous morphology, expanded surface area, fast charge transfer kinetics, and high electrical conductivity. The resultant anchored CFC nanohybrid is highly active for electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER), showing a lower overpotential of 221 and 313 mV at a current density of 10 and 25 mA cm, respectively, compared to pristine Co-Fe-LDH (339 and 391 mV), showcasing the significant role of CNTs in improving the electrocatalytic performance of pristine Co-Fe-LDH.

Lithium metal is deemed to be the ultimate anode material for high-energy-density and fast-charging lithium batteries. However, issues of dendritic deposition and frangible solid electrolyte interphases must be resolved for lithium metal anodes. Herein, a hybrid interfacial layer, hierarchical hollow nanospheres assembled from lithiophilic imine-based covalent organic frameworks and built-in Ag sites (Ag@ICOFs), has been applied to regulate the interfacial lithium ion flux and enhance the anode stability for effectively inhibiting dendrite formation.
