Article Abstract

A 2-D semianalytical model using the Legendre polynomial approach was applied for modeling the piezoelectric transformer (PT). In the model, the mechanical displacements and the electric potential were expanded in a double series of orthonormal polynomials with an appropriate analytical form. Series and parallel resonance frequencies, input electrical admittance, and voltage gain were obtained for the PT. The results are in excellent agreement with both the numerical results calculated with a 3-D finite-element analysis and experimental ones. The approach is able to predict the behavior of a wide and a long PT.

Despite being a serious health condition that significantly increases cardiovascular and metabolic disease risks, sleep apnea syndrome (SAS) remains largely underdiagnosed. While polysomnography (PSG) remains the gold standard for diagnosis, its clinical application is limited by high costs, complex setup requirements, and sleep quality interference. Although wearable devices using photoplethysmography (PPG) have shown promise in SAS detection, their continuous operation demands substantial power consumption, hindering long-term monitoring capabilities.

Aiming at the issues of low sensitivity and poor resistance to temperature and vibration interference in traditional optical fiber current transformers, as well as the structural complexity of magnetostrictive material-coupled sensors, this paper integrates a high-sensitivity electrostrictive piezoelectric ceramic sensor with an FBG-FP cascaded fiber-optic sensor. This coupling significantly optimizes the sensor structure. By employing orthogonal intensity demodulation to enhance detection sensitivity, and adopting a multi-cycle waveform-averaging method to calculate the DC output light intensity, temperature calibration and compensation are achieved through the correlation between the DC output light intensity and operating points.

Microrobots, characterized by their small size, flexibility, and portability, have a diverse range of potential applications. However, microrobots' actuation (piezoelectric ceramics, dielectric elastomers, ion winds, etc.) often requires a high voltage, typically hundreds of volts.

Wireless power transfer (WPT) with rectennas is important for IoT sensor applications. Miniature GHz voltage transformers are more attractive than a large-size charge pump to operate the rectifiers efficiently. In this study, GHz bulk acoustic wave (BAW) piezoelectric transformers based on c-axis zig-zag polarization-inverted ScAlN thin films are proposed.
